Incredible story of an honest ebay seller

About a month ago I bought some Post cards of Maris, Ford, and Snider from a seller with ebay id MickeyMantles(guy's name is Nael). Transaction was great. I thought he had some neat stuff with great prices so I put him on my favorites.

About a week and a half ago he put up 2 sealed cases of 1989 Fleer rack packs. He took a best offer from me and I mailed him the check.

Here is the first email I get from Nael....

"i received your check , pulled the case ( i had 2 of these cases) , i opened one because it looked "professionally" fishy as how it was taped. After opening one box i noticed 2 boxes untouched and 1 box - surprise - all opened up. I can not sell you an item i suspect was tampered with when i received it. would you like the check back , ripped up or take the chance. i feel 100 % uncomfortable sending it to you. id rather open it up myself and see whats going on. Please email me asap. Thanks Nael

I respond to Nael that I appreciate his honesty and just rip up the check. He was very gracious about it. Here is the last email I got from him today....

"Thanks Barry , i am very anxious to open it up - and see if i really did get duped on that one ( im 98 % sure i did) , i will rip up the check and offer you a 1989 fleer rack pack box free - just accept it lol. I appreciate any people you recommend , i will ship the 1989 fleer rack pack box tomorrow - i think the guy was an amateur because he sold me 1000's of cards at a good price (he had a price guide too) , i just dont understand why you would damage a case like that when he had $100 cards laying around ???
Thanks and sorry ,Nael

How many sellers would come forward with this? Most would just mail the case and tell you they purchased it sealed and sorry. Sure, someone can say that he should have checked the cases before listing them...but he didnt and his honesty and integrity cost him money to post and it also cost him the sale.

I implore everyone to check him out on ebay and give him business. He deserves to have a strong customer base. Ive never been more impressed with someone selling on ebay.

Thanks for reading my experience.
Barry

I added him to my favorites at the suggestion of Guru I believe. Nice stuff. Glad to hear he's panned out to be a reputable source in the hobby.

    Let me play Devils Advocate..

    He suspected tampering..Opened..
The entire case had Billy ripkens and griffeys showing on top..
He kept it and made up that whole story..

  • I have to admit I was thinking like Roger... I guess I have become jaded by the crap that goes on in ebay.

  • Why are 1989 Fleer boxes and packs so often tampered with? I know that is one of Gary's prize tamperings.

Here is why I dont think that is the case....
First, he could have opened them up before he listed them.
Second, he could have sold them as is or resealed the case himself.
Third, he wouldnt be offering to send me a box for free -- its COSTING him money.

This guy just doesnt seem the type to bother looking for 89 fleer star cards but Ive been wrong before. Maybe he got a case with the whiteout Ripkens on top LOL He's doing right by me so Im not going to complain and think he really deserves props.

Plus, he offered to conclude the original deal, just said he didn't feel comfortable doing so.
