I've only dug six half dollars in the last 15 years of detecting. One clad Kennedy, which I spent (strangely, the reverse of it had been painted with white enamel paint), and five silver ones. (Which were an 1894-O Barber, 1937-D and 1944 Walkers, a 1952 Franklin, and the Oregon Trail commem above.)
I also once saw a really well-worn (Fair to AG) Huguenot half that had reportedly been found in or near a lake around Jacksonville, FL. Obviously the coin was somebody's pocket piece.
