Circulation Find

sumnomsumnom Posts: 5,963 ✭✭✭
I guess it doesn't take much to please me these days. I got a 1964-D dime in change today. I haven't seen any silver in circulation for a long time. The last time was 2000 when I got a 1954-S quarter.

OK, I'm done. As you were.

Did ya see it or hear it first?

Nice find. I've pulled over a dozen silver dimes from rolls in the past 14 months and the 1964-D seems to be the most common date/MM.

Silver is always fun. I found a 1943 Merc in a roll about a month ago. I love that feeling!

I used to work a video game route and do collections from the machines...you could always hear a silver quarter when you dumped a cashbox before you saw it!

I saw it first. As soon as the cashier pulled it from the till I knew. They really do look so much better than clad coins.

Last weekend I received a 1962-D Quarter in change. As soon as the person behind the counter dropped it and a bunch of other change in my hand I heard the sound of a silver coin..........

I received a bright and shiny Lincoln Cent 1964 D today in my change. Must be a day for '64s.

Got a '58 rosie in change the other day. I definitely heard it first. It was the last coin in the handful of change. It has been about 5 years since I last got any silver in change.
I remeber when I was about 11, and I learned that silver sounded different from the copper/nickel. My grandmother gave my brother and I a bunch of Kennedy's and we quickly noticed the different sound the silver and 40% silver ones made.

Most of the silver dimes I find are in the Coin Star reject bin! For whatever reason, it rejects a lot of those and if a user is dumping large amounts of coin in, they never hear it get rejected.

    I think.

For some reason, the two coinstars at facilities I patronize never seem to have anything in the reject bin. I check when I go and they are always empty. Cheers, RickO

99 out of a 100 times they are empty but its that 100th time that makes the 99 disappointing checks all worth while! image

  • It's always fun to find this stuff in circulation. A little over a week ago I found a 1944 quarter in my change. Actually I didn't spot it so much as when I dumped out my change I heard the sound that silver makes! I may actually put it back into circulation as value wise it's not that big a deal, and could turn someone else onto coin collection. I do that once in a while.
