Guess the grade

These cards are already PSA graded. I had some free subs and thought I would pull my top cards and try for bumps. I cracked alot of low pop commons but thought I would leave these as is and send in for review. I am on the fence on wondering if it would be a waste not to crack and sub. The value of the cards is the only reason I haven't cracked them out. They do not have any hidden issues and have already graded clear of the 4/5 range. Tell me what you think.

I'm feeling generous today. Hopefully so did the PSA grader
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

To me cracking is the only way to go, because A) if they are in PSA holders already bumping them up is like admitting they got it wrong the first time, and B) if they are in other companies holders, then PSA might not bump them because then they appear less strict on their grading than the other company. Sending them raw is my opinion.

Edited to add: They are all beauties in my opinion (awesome centering on the Drysdale)

  • Drysdale -- 6 -- Looks to 2-3 decent corners but there is some front staining going on.
Aaron -- 4 -- Centering is off, rough cut, and corner rounding in upper right
    Kell -- 5 -- Nice Centering 3 Touched Corners
Koufax -- 6 -- 1 nice corners, something going on with the cards geometry
Robinson-- 5 -- All 4 corners are touched.

LOL Touched corners do not make 4's and 5's. As he said, if you read his original post, he has cleared the 4/5 range already. I'm sure he has all 6's and 7's there.

I hope DrJ doesn't work at PSA.image The scans look alittle fuzzy and the corners look alittle better in person.

I have my own thoughts on what should get bumped and what will not. I was just looking for some additional eyes. Two of the cards are in the right holder, two should be one grade higher and one card is borderline.

Are you going to tell us what grades they are currently?
  • mealewormmealeworm Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭
They are all 7's NQ. The Drysadale and Kell should get the bump to 8's. The Aaron and Robinson are not going anywhere.

The Koufax is the money card of the bunch and it would probably be an 8 if not for that reason. It has three mint and one nm+ corners. The roller marks are hardly noticable and the centering, ever slight tilt, is well within range.

I was hoping more people would think the Koufax was an 8. There is a HUGE difference in price between 7 and 8 on this card.

PSA needs me to work for them. With some of the recent questionable grades, I could save them from becoming the next GEM or PRO grading!

Yes, PSA is always looking for insights into a card's geometry. LOL image
  • I figured a 6 on the Koufax because of the roller marks. Otherwise 7-8 depending on the grader.

  • Leave well enough alone if they look to nice they might come back as evidence of trimming thats the other negative thing that can happen. Im not saying they are but PSA has been on that agenda recently.
