I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Perhaps this "guess the grade" was a set-up but the guesses provided mirrored my impressions when first seeing the coin in hand. I bought this coin from a forum member in the summer as the nicest AU-58 Ike you will ever see...and I strongly agree!!!

The coin photo is a very good representation of the coin in-hand...exceptionally clean fields and above average luster. However, PCGS must have seen the slightest bit of rub on Ike's jawbone...rub that is so imperceptible that I cannot determine if it really even exists. If I was so inclined, I would crack and resubmit to PCGS as I am certain 9 out of 10 times the coin would come back as a 65.

    Thanks for the Guesses!

Wow! I have fallen for this before!

Lots of tiny hairlines, which are nearly impersceptible in a photograph, on the jawline and upper forehead will guarantee the AU58 grade from PCGS.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The coin appears lightly circulated in this picture. Note the grey
areas in the hair and jawline as well as below the eye. This is
the type of wear it would get in a few hours of being carried in
    a pocket with other coins.

That Ike looks familiar. I wonder where you got it? imageimage

I seem to remember calling it a "65 with a slight trace of rub."

Easy to grade it 58 after it's posted, but before I got to the grade, that's what I graded the coin. Obvious wear on the portrait.

  • And Ngc also picks up the rub on the jaw and forhead. I had a bunch that looked as good as that that came back au-58 as well!
