TJ 1st Spouse Grades in, Irony Abounds

So I convinced a few people at work to buy the TJ 1st Spouse coins, hoping to create some collectors or at least spark a little interest. Several did decide to hang on to a few of theirs. I also explained grading and certification to them, and they decided to let me send their coins in for grading. Well, I took care of it for them, and sent them off. After weeks of hearing about the low prices these are selling for on e-bay, I finally got the grades in. See if you can guess which coin was the one I sent in.

Hmmm... Could it be the 69??? image

Buyer and seller of vintage coin boards!
  • Sadly, yes. I don't know whether to feel bad that I got left out of the fun, or excited that they will at least feel good about their purchase now.

Well you made some VERY good friends happy. And with the rise in the price of gold since you boght them you have not lost any money that I can see even with the grading fees you should be OK.

And they are just great looking coins.

  • Yeah they will be happy. This is the end of coin recommendations for me though. It's too stressful and not worth the benefit (hoping to create new collectors). I think they were none to happy when they saw the prices dropping on E-Bay. They didn't say it directly, but they did talk about what they were selling for a lot. At least the grades will make up for the slumping prices. Even with higher gold prices, the grading fees, PayPal and EBay fees, and shipping don't quite bring a 69 to break even.

  • To be fair, I also had another submission of 8 coins that were all mine. It was my CC Freebies, so they were on a different form. I did make 5 out of 8 70's on that. With the 1 69 of mine from this submission, I'm 5 of 9. I can't complain too much about more than half 70's.

And at least this will remove any doubt that I may have manipulated the coins to give me the better grades (Not that they would think that).

Sorry, but MS70's don't have much impact on this issue.

    Congrats on your results.

At least you paid the $10 for First Strike. Unfortunately to many 70's are being generated from the T.J. FS. Gonna keep the price of the 70's below MW & AA First Strike..

  • I'm shocked you could get friends from work to pay an extra 10 per coin for the first strike designation. People that I tell that to say that it is stupoid to pay 10 dollars for a special designation. Anyway congrats.
