Another Silver Question?

What price is a fair price to purchase Silver today at retail?
RACC
I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I would think some dealers are a little flooded with inventory and would let it go at spot or close to it.

  • Trying to figure where a normal joe is going to go and pick up silver for Spot. Now I may not understand what Spot means but is that not where it is selling at currently. And if this is true where can an average person like me purchase Silver for Spot in not large quantities? Is there not often a markup?

I am not informed on this matter and wouold appreciate some help. Thanks

that may be fair for that dealer, but as others have said bigger shops may have a lot of inventory and will sell it at dealer cost.
  • Spot is not a fair price.

You may get lucky if a B&M shop is overstocked, I know they have been doing a lot of buying recently in my area.

Even still, it's unlikely you'll get it at spot unless you have a long term relationship. It's pretty rare to find bullion at spot from a place that has an overhead to maintain.

A better question might be what is a fair price based on X amount. The more you buy, the better deal you'll get. It also depends on what you are buying. 90% US coins? Silver Eagles? Bullion bars and what size? 1 ounce rounds? All have different margins.

  • I agree that it does appear that I am chasing silver. However, one does not chase often on an upward drive. I dollar cost invest and I invest in long term investments. Just because I did not buy microsoft in 1987 does not mean I will never buy it in 2007 if I see a long term upside potential. Yes I am coming in late to precious metals but that does not make it any less viable of an investment option.

I agree with that, when considering silver will eventually hit $100+ before this bull is done.

Are you serious about silver hitting $100 a ounce? I don't know and am just wondering why some think it will go to that amount. If it does then todays prices will surely be bargains.

" What price is a fair price to purchase Silver today at retail?"

What do you mean by silver (e.g. bars, SAEs, or coins)?

  • The local shops in my area (Chicago) sell silver at these rates on average:

    ASE.....$2.00 over spot
Bars (JM, ENG, CREDIT).....$1.00 over spot
Bars (generic type and rounds)....$0.75 over spot
    90% Junk.....At melt

If that happens, my SAE collection will be about wiped out.

You can buy a 100 oz bar at apmex for .29 over spot. Buy 10 of them and get them at .19 over spot. That is less than spot was an hour ago. --Jerry
