Hope no one in the registry forum actually minds pictures of a few coins from my son's registry set....
(I still have to retake more...been hit with pneumonia and just getting my energy back little by little....some of the older pics are way blurry image )

I know the pic still isn't that great but I did want to capture the color. I think it looks cool

Played with the lighting a little on the obv to see the coin a bit differently with the toning....

Does that 56 have a doubled date? Or is a camera trick? If that is a heavy double, you have more than just a nice looker.

Qbert, I think that is a thing with the light and angle.

Nice colors! I agree with Nick the first 58 is best.
  • Your pictures have been particularly nice lately. Did you get a new camera or something? What camera/lens are you using?

I really like the '56, but it looks like something changed between the obverse and reverse pics, like white balance/lighting. So that kind of throws off the comparison of the two sides for me. I'm guessing the obverse pic is probably just about perfect in capturing the look of the coin.

I'm just getting started in this photography thing myself. I dream about someday taking a picture that actually looks like the coin image

PS: Good luck with the pneumonia. That really sucks your energy out and it takes a while to recover.

    Thanks all image
MGoodman I am not, but I do try image

I do agree on the '58d. The martian look is more what the coin looks like (Nick and Tom know that image ) but I showed the second one just because I think it shows the coin surface more (any nick/ding/etc). My son REALLY loves that look on the coin though.

For the pics, I did have to get a new camera as my Nikon 5400 went totally belly-up during the summer. I had spent $500 on it a few years back, bought extra batteries (hardly used) and then had to buy a new one. I actually bought the Nikon S-10. It's in the 900 family line where the lens will actually swivel for you. Makes it nice.

I use 2 ott lights and just lay the coin down and shoot. Each shot takes me ~1-2 minutes to prep the coin (angle/position/etc), then about 2-5 minutes on the PC (circle crop / save in photoshop and then upload to imageshack). So, each one is about 3-8 minutes. Not too bad but far from as good as many people on here.

Argentumrex....for the '56, what changed was the angle and the lighting. Taking the reverse in the same exact spot as the obv, on this one, made the reverse look just dark...you couldn't see the green/yellow/blues. So, I moved the ott lights and I tilted the slab of the coin. Good eye to notice it. I was trying to showcase the colors and the coin and did have to adjust on this one. This coin took me about twice what it normally takes as I took 2 shots of the obv (wanted to capture the rainbow) and about 5 of the reverse since none of them really showed the coin with the vibrant colors.

I am on a little photo kick as I was, deservedly, admonished for my crappy/blurry pics that are on my son's registry sets at the moment (those were with the 5400 I think...when it was going out image and I was still learning a lot image ). Those will be updated soon. As will descriptions as I know that nicely toned Roosies are hard to find and my son (and I) appreciate the help in finding them.
