  • Good surprised or bad??? I would call it a 62

The grade is not relevant. There are so many nice ones on the market, the only thing that matters with a not-so-nice generic example like this one is price compared to similar examples.

    really 62/shot 3

    PCGS 64

If the PCGS grade is this, it would be a surprise, to me at least.

  • I enlarged the image, took a good look, and I think it's a solid 64. Would not be surprised if the (new?) grade is 65. Series & Coin holder not used for a couple years...

Those are some mighty light scruffs on that obverse. I'd say you were pleasantly surprised with
    a 66.

Looks like a 63.5, so I think they gave it a 64. Personally, I think the coin is solid for a 63, but doesn't quite make the 64 grade.

While the abrasions on the cheek aren't deep, they are wide and distracting. It looks (from the photo) that the luster is slightly subued and the strike is just a bit above aberage, the color on the coin is uneven also like I have seen on poorly rinsed dipped coins.
Gee, sorry for being so hard on your coin here. I'd be surprised if it graded higher than a MS63, and would say you were surprised it was only a MS62?

Sorry for the tough analysis, but I'm that way with my own coins too.

Thanks for all the opinions! This got mixed up with a bunch of CC dollars that I recently had graded, I guess this particular one wasn't that new. Some ask why have a coin like this graded? I have found that selling coins like this raw on ebay doesn't work for me. People assume that if it's not in a holder, it must have something wrong with it.

I really thought this would go 64 (I've seen worse in 65 holders). I was surprised that it only got a 63, perhaps the color had something to do with it. My most recent submission wasn't a total waste as I sent a raw 1995 DDO Lincoln that came back 67 Red. There again, only slabed it to sell it.

    Thanks for the input!
