Coins, not graders.....

Recently, I had my first post in what seems to be one of the longest threads in a long, long time. The thread was started by someone else. I put my two cents worth in it and I do not regret it. That post IMHO got way out of hand and degraded (no pun intended) into name-calling . The original post was not an attack, just an opinion. Attacks are not the purpose of this forum. Reasonable chat about graders, I think is fine. But when we totally get away from why we are all here, I really am at a loss as to what to think. I think if we all read that thread, from beginning to end, we can all make a reasonable choice as to who has ethics and morals and who does not. BUT AGAIN, we are here because of coins, not because of coin graders. After reading that thread, sit back, take a deep breath and come back to reality. There are many experts who post here, many of which may have beliefs that differ from yours. BUT...does that mean that they do not have valuable information to add? As long as the information is about coins and not about what many perceive as a personal attack. Let us get back to basics. Sit down, look at a raw coin and try to remember why you bought your first coin. IT AIN'T ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, JUST THE COINS!

Well stated..........hence why it is referred to as a hobby.

  • And the hobby is enjoyable and fun .
  • We cannot allow negativity to change our course. WE collect coins for coins, not for the plastic or stickers. Getting a coin graded is fine. Buying a graded coin is fine. But learning to grade is finer.

Hobbies are always distorted by greed and commercialism. Passion is driven to new heighths by profiteering. The true collector is passionate about the object of his interest. Cost enters into it only to satisfy his passion to own the object. All hobbies are distorted by greed - unavoidable when the profiteers smell money. Greed then degenerates into conflict and name calling to the detriment of the hobby and participating collectors. Cheers, RickO

grading is fun to discuss because it is an opinion which
    can easily be debated.

but i agree with the premise of your post.
too bad a lot of nice coins cost so much which results in much
debate over price and its grade.

Now with only 10 posts you're a rookie.

I THINK I know the thread you are referring to image, but you aren;t going to change Rome overnight.

When people get flummoxed they call names. (or so I hear.image ) image
