5 Leg Camel

astroratastrorat Posts: 9,221 ✭✭✭✭✭
For those of you who like varieties, here is an ancient precursor to the 2 1/2, 3, and "other-legged" Buffalo nickels...the 5 legged camel!

Note the engravers error and subsequent "cover-up" resulting in the shadow of a 5th leg on this drachm from Tragan (issued in Bostra) AD 98-117.

Lane

Edited to add...Sorry, but I could not figure out how to post the image.

    Nice Trajan provincial! image

The re-engraving sorta gives the illusion of motion to the camel's legs.

    Photobucket

    Lane,
That's the link to Photobucket which is a free popular site for hosting images.
Once you upload a picture to your album you just cut and paste the link.
Feel free to pm me if I can help.

Okay...I thought there was a different procedure on this board (other than "attaching"). I'll look into Photobucket.

Nice coin by the way. I dabble a bit in ancients too. I've got a few that when I finally get my copy stand I'll post a few favorites.

As far as linking photo's I 've heard of people having their photobuckets disappear all of a sudden on them (see yesterdays post on photobucket). My vote has always been for a cheap website hosting package and domain name. When done right you can get out for under $35 a year and have know that your photo's will stay up for as long or as little time as you like.

I'm not sure if photobucket does ftp or not since I dont use them but also its a lot easier to open cuteftp and upload than wade thru several pages of to upload a photo (like you have to do at yahoo or other services I've used).

Actually, there are some really cool ancient errors and they are usually fairly reasonably priced. I especially like Roman Republican brockages.
