So you don't have any desire to have more than one of two cards of any player, yet you want to show off a new Guerrero autograph to add to your stack of about 40 of them? Ignoring the obvious contradiction, no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy them, Mike. I did love your explanation about how a insert minor league Upper Deck card of his was his "Best Possible Rookie Card" the other day, ignoring all possibe conventions of what Rookie Cards are.

For those reading it, Mike' the one starting the thread (importedbeer).

As for not prospecting, what would you call your recent pickups of Matt Holliday? I can think of a few terms (good $ after bad being at the top of the list), but that could certainly be considered "prospecting" (albeit a few years late and many $ short). You even mentioned that you thought he was the "best investment under $100:

I like buying multiples of certain cards an players. I could buy the 1957 Topps #407 Mantle/Berra card all day long if I had the funds. Once I complete my collection of autographed Ted Williams cards, I'll continue to buy them where and when I can. The more the merrier!

I have about 40 of his autos now, and even as I am collecting him, I am convinced that I will sell them all at some time, hopefully when he is in the news and his cards spike....then once out of the news again, I will pick up one or two for my PC. I really don't have any desire to have any more than one or two cards of any one player. It's about as close to prospecting as I get, because I really do not like buying cards of players that have not yet proven themself. >>

<< <i>They are still making on-card autos for the premium sets... UD Goudey, A&G, Sterling, Heritage...anything decent is on-card.

Might want to look closer at some of these so call on card sigs in premium sets. Many of them that a very clear bandaid that looks like on card until you look closer. All the A&G autos as well as the Goudey are sticker. I would not hardly consider heritage a premium set. 2007 Topps Football has the Rookie autos that are on card. There are some, but the vast majority are now nothing more than bandaids. >>

Even with the high end on card autographs, the surfaces often are so glossy that the signature bubbles or smears. I was at a card shop last year or the year before and a customer pulled a Sidney Crosbie (sp?? I know nothing about hockey) Exquisite or similiar game used, auto'd rookie card. First off, the card was thicker and was all chipped up and second, the autograph had bubbled because the surface was too glossy and not conducive for a signature.

Personally, I prefer my auto'd cards to be on good, old cardboard or at worst, a crisp white, but not ultra glossy surface (such as the Upper Deck Sign of the Times sets).
