This walked into the pharmacy today.....

First a little history:

One of my regular customers had a child with a chronic problem, and had asked me for my opinion and help. I did what I do for any of my customers and researched. His doctor and I discussed the new treatment I found and what the literature said. The doctor agreed that it would be a good chance that the medication would considerably help/cure him.

Today was about a month and a half since then. His mom came in today to thank me, saying that her son had imporved drastically! I said it was my pleasure. When she was walking to the pharmacy, I was looking at a few coins in my hand, examining them closely. She asked me afterward if I collected coins, and I smiled and said: "Yes, how could you tell?"

Later on today....she brought me somthing which I never expected. Coins! I told her many times it was not neccesary and I was just doing my job, but she insisted. I was surprised at what she gave me (part of Her collection):

1991 Silver Eagle
A 40% Kennedy Half
8 Silver Dimes (mercs and roosies)
4 Silver Quarters (all Washington, one of which was a very nice tond unc)
A bunch of wheat cents, and a few indian head cents
A 1957b silver certificate star note

And....a tond unc Columbian Expo Commem

I was amazed at her generosity! It truly was the ultimate compliment to me.

  • You are a very nice person, Ankur... and she is lucky to have you for her pharmacist...

Her gift to you is a generous gesture... yet there is no way it can compare to the gift you gave to her and her child!!!

    Kudos!!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. But seriously, these are things that I will do for any of my patients if they need the help. The majority of my customers are very friendly, and come to the pharmacy on when I am working. Its a great place to work when people appreciate you so much!

    Thanks again,

I presume you're referring to AJ? or both of them.

AJ, Very cool. Nothing feels better than being in a position to give something very appreciated. You gave your help and she was able to give in return. Great story. --Jerry
  • I am sure you do this for all of your patients. But this thread is about that wonderfully amazing person.

Awesome job helping your little patient! Congratulations on providing an outstanding example of what a great and knowledgable clinical community pharmacist can do for their patients. Monkeys can count pills. Pharmacists can intervene on behalf of a patient and save lives. What a fantastic mom too showing her appreciation for you in such a thoughtful way!

    Good Show! Warmest regards,

P.S. Nice work with the patient, Ankur. It shows how a pharmacist should practice. I am sure your patients are grateful.

Chrisrx is also a pharmacist. I had been offered many jobs to work as a hospital pharmacist or in industrial pharmacy making medications, but my heart has always been in retail where I have one on one contact with my patients. Its been good image

That's 8...we could have a CE program at a coin show! LOL!

Not to highjack this thread, but community (retail) pharmacy practice is a difficult profession. It's great to hear stories like these where pharmacists use their skills and receive the reward of patient appreciation (and I am NOT talking about the gift of coins).

    Nice work, Ankur.
