How do card buyer's know Game Used is Game Used?

Lets say you ar a large collector of game used stuff from the 4 sports. How in the hell do you know where that little swatch of material came from? Do you trust the sports card industry? Also where do they store all of the unused scraps of material and where do they store it? Someone talk me into keeping some of the stuff I have collected/pulled over the last few years.

  • I know that, regarding bats, a lot of them are sold to Topps (for example) after being broken, or cracked, or otherwise usable.

As for jersies, cleats, pants, gloves, etc... I dont know how those work.

Buy hey, relic cards are just cool!

  • One bit of comfort is that if it is not as advertised the companies have a lot more to lose than the collector

Does he know for sure that came from a pack? Been a lot of talk about people switching patches to make them look better. Could be the case with that one. Certainly not sticking up for Upper Deck (I rarely buy anything they put out anyway) I'm a Topps guy.

I only see that one card listed on his blog - just went there quickly but that's all I saw
  • Most game used cards are fake. They always buy from auction houses which are a load of crap, especially with so-called authenticator Lou Lampson. Plus I bet they don't even check the player characteristics of all the bats they cut up so most bat cards probably feature a piece of a bat used by another player.
