Doug - I know. If memory serves me right, I made the pop 1 NJ(d) about 1/2 dozen years ago (and my memory may not serve me right as I confused someone today for someone else - that was emabrassing!) What appears to be a "good price" for the coin at the time for a "quick flip" turned out to be only a very good price for the buyer. Six years later - still can't slab a second example. Good example of one never knowing where these coins will eventually go -many go down but some go up (and up sharply).

  • Probably #1 for the year and a very rare coin, but we'll have a couple in the near future. Looks like we made a complete set of 25c in 69 except for one of the easier D coins we're out of.

Who here wants to sell me a complete quarter set (P&D) in MS68SF? PM me with shipped price and payment with Paypal.
  • Glad to hear reports of people making complete set(s) of SF69 SHQ. I am not sure they are all true but Seth is at least reliable! Maybe there will be some "glory holes" of the tough P mints yet to come! I have some results today and did not make a few of the key P mints SHQ in SF69 yet and only a few more of each in for grading so crossing my fingers. Need to check out the pops to see if any of the presidential dollars I found are tough in SF69. Made some P and D mints position A,B et. al. If any are scarce ones I will offer for trade.dr.

Doug: I have most of the state quarters in 69 now as well. I need to fill one order for a complete 10 coin set and then all extras will be available. Let me know if I can help.

I also have 10 coin complete sets of MS68SF state quarters now - just PM me if you are interested in that grade.

Sounds like we all have coins available for sale, good job guys image
  • I checked the coin numbers and the scarcest dollars I have are the George Washington P dollar position A in SF69 coin number 390546 that shows as pop zero now, James Madison P dollar position B in sf 69 coin number 390559 shows as pop three coin and Thomas Jefferson P position A in SF69 coin number 390554 shows as pop 6. I have extra in some of the D mint SHQ still showing low pops but I suspect those will increase rapidly now grades are being released. dr

Yep, all the right elements right now in CA for peaceful searching for most of us, the only thing I'm lacking is TIME. Still trying to figure out how not to go to work and still have construction continue. Once I figure that out, I'll have it made.

And to boot, it looks like we might get rain tomorrow, Oh, the days with the fireplace going and the dog laying beneath the feet, looking at hundreds of coins. What happened to the good ol' days?
  • You guys will have to continue the 2007 mint set hunt without me. Utah business strike quarter just coming out now and the hunt for business strike MS68's begins again. I went thru around 40,000 Wyoming quarters this last release so hoping that Utah will be nice but probably not, probably several weeks of hard hunting in store for Utah as well. dr
  • Gosh dang I want to buy some of these state quarters you guys have! Right now I have no money at all though. image. I love state quarters. I have 3 of them (2 thanks to wcqx). I need 97 more.

  • I am kinda new. When submitting say 1 full mint set (28) coins. That woulds be 28x14=392. 3920 per 10 sets. Don't feel like much of a chance to make money. I guess unless you are a dealer and getting a better rate it is almost impossible to make money. I think I have a Adams Satin finish Obverse Die Gouge. Do I cut around that 1 coin and choose mint error $40. thanks all

<< <i>Update - the first hunter who, at first blush, appeared to be pricing his coins way too cheap (but, again, more on this later) has now been undercut by hunter #2 by $10/pair (Darwinism at its finest once again). Proving hunter #1 was actually very smart? So, now either hunter #3 will undercut #2 by $10/pair or even hunter #1 will undercut #2 by an additional $10 on his next lot of coins. Should hunter #1 simply chose to match hunter #2 next week, then hunter #3 may actually be able to undercut (2) hunters with a single offering! Stay tuned - this is getting interesting. Wondercoin >>

It appears that someone showed up, not sure if they would be considered a "hunter", and set the new pricing structure. Looking forward to reading the new analysis of the 2007 Satin Finish "Circus"

  • Appears the new entrant(s) to e-bay either did not screen their coins properly or actually wanted to make a bunch of SF68 coins. There are several SHQ I submitted where 100% of that state and date got SF69 hence I did not even get one complete set of SF68 yet from my first order! Noticed my pop one dollar (still shows zero) has not been posted to the pop report so Monday will probably be a big pop report update day.

Seth pop 1 WY-P looks good for now! Seems everyone new is posting at .99 opener. Sellers may think that by opening at .99 there will be a bunch of hungry under-bidders to unload second chance offers but I do not believe this to be the case.

Glad I did not put a large investment into this year SF hunt. Will save my cash to buy what I need and the good ones are going to be pricey to make up for the devaluation of the more common ones. dr

  • GW-P Pos A, right Doug? Pop 1 is correct, however that's a positional rarity. P-GW has 3 others for Position B, so still very rare and tough to make based on current results.

I don't expect the WY-P to stay Pop 1 if I have anything to say about it. Still a low pop coin based on the number of mint sets everyone has gone through for there to be just 1. I'm having a hard time finding any more in the same quality out of 100's of mint sets, so not sure if I should let it go or not. It's going to be hard to replace!
    Seth
  • I got offered $100 for my POS A WA-P dollar in SF69 pop one, a joke! Seems like these pos a b must be 50/50 but I do not know if having the coin up or down when receiving the side lettering makes it more or less vulnerable to damage. Could be just random but it appears to me the POS a across the board are a bit tougher and time will tell.

If I were Seth I would not be anxios to sell off the WY-P either, could be very pricely like the FL-D and WV-D in SF69 if it holds up to say a pop five ($3k-$4k) or worth even more if it stays under that. Someone could hit a glory hole and devalue them either now or later in the release like the KS-P in SF69 and eventually even the WV-D in SF69 became somewhat devalued but still a rarity worth a lot. My guess is the WY-P will remain a rarity and worth a lot like the WV-D but you never know, makes it fun!. dr

    Doug,

I'll give you 100.01 for the GW-P if that makes me high bidder? Honestly, it's worth many multiples. I have a home for it if you want to wholesale it to me. image

I've had very even results on Position A/B, so I wouldn't bank on the positional rarity. I'll have the P-GW-69 Pos A soon, but I have room for one more if yours needs a home.

I'm starting to wonder whether collecting the Sacs and President dollars is worth the time and the money after so many varieties have occurred. I'm hearing 2009 will usher in the potential for:

    4 (themes) x 2 (Mints) x 2 (edge direction) x 2 (SF/BS) x 2 (sac/Pres) = 64 different coins per year

That doesn't account for weak edge, partial edge, missing edge, etc, and on and on! Just to get a decent grade it costs $200 - $2,000 per coin! image I think I might have to stick with the eagles as at least I get more than some prone to tarnish hunk of manganese. image

I agree, it's getting out of control. I am dismayed that they started giving relevance to Pos A or B.
  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,979 ✭✭✭✭✭
PC - They didn't just start using positioning - that has been here since the first Pres. Is the number of coins needed for the set a wild number - ABSOLUTELY. Hopefully, Congress will put an end to edge lettering all together and put an end this? In which case, the 2007 (type) coins could become very interesting (and even more collectible)?

    Wondercoin

  • Many collectors have chosen to go with 8-coin SF sets for the Registry, so there is another option if you don't need to have the larger set. Some go with Ps in Pos A and Ds in Pos B or vice versa just to have both varieties of edge lettering.
    Seth
  • Glad that 8 coin option is available for the Presidential dollars. Only the die hards that want all these A&B variations et. al. should have to collect them. The P mint dollars in SF69 based upon my own 2007 mint set search are very scarce regardless of position. By having the eight coin option that should create more demand, more collectors, and that will benefit the price of presidential dollars regardless of position A or B. dr
