Interesting business model for a new eBay seller

Linky

I had this Rams team set on my watchlist for a few days and didn't pay any attention to the wording of it, other than to verify that it was a complete team set with the SP RCs. Anyway, rather than putting in a snipe, which is how I almost always buy, I decided to put in a bid. Almost immediately, the auction was ended and I was the winner. I got to looking at the description a little more closely, and also looked at his completed auctions, all of which he ended in the same fashion.

So, what do you guys think about this guy's idea about building his eBay rep?

Don't pay until you receive your set! That's right, since we are new sellers and don't accept PayPal, we will ship out our unique team sets to buyers with at least 30 positive feedbacks and NO MORE than 1 negative purchasing feedback BEFORE you send in payment via money order or check! At the auction's end, simply send us shipping information and we GUARANTEE that your set will go out no later than the day after you send us your information or your set is FREE! So you've got nothing to lose!

******First bid wins the auction!!!****** We cannot and will not end a listing early, but the first bidder will be considered the winner and we will ship out immediately upon receipt of shipping information. This is for a limited time only as we establish ourselves on EBay.

  • Good way to get some great feedback before setting up for some really big fish....
  • I hope it works for them

  • Whatever works for him. With the items that he's selling, he's really not going to get burned, but I don't really see where it's going to help his business either. I mean, pay me now or pay me later, but either way the buyer has got to pay - really no added benefit to the buyer whether he waits to pay or not. I would rather pay up front anyway, otherwise I would probably forget.

Look at that art work he bought for $731.00. Looks like something my daughter could have drawn.
  • I agree. Why would this make me want to buy his cards over someone else's.

I've seen a lot of this guys auctions floating around...his team sets are generally overpriced in comparison to other sellers. I think he's hoping his new model will hook overly eager buyers before they look around for a better deal.

Nor would it me. I've done more than my share of buying on the Bay over the years - first time I'd seen a seller take this approach before.

The last several years since Topps started SPing their chrome RCs, I've had a tough time compiling a team set on the cheap. Just last week, I finally found & received the last two 2001 chrome RCs I needed to finish up my set. I've still got a 2005 RC on my list. Six bucks might seem a bit much, but finishing the thing off in one shot is worth it to me. Heck, the $3 shipping works too - these days, many sellers are charging $3 for a single card.

There is less pressure on the buyer. Less chance of getting screwed by overgraded stuff. If you get the cards in hand, you can send them right back and not worry about getting a refund, or getting a refund minus shipping costs. I like the idea. I can not explain the ending auctions after one bid. Seems like a no win situation there.
