My '86 Topps sub - BRUTAL results - NO 10's

I got caught up in the '86 Ryan fun and bought a 3 rack case from BBC. I do not have the time to be that selective but thought all the cards had a shot at a 10. I guess I am out of practice having not submitted a lot the last year or two. I have submitted hundreds (if not thousnads) of cards over the last 10 years and this has to be my worst ever. UGLY. I just can't believe all the 8's. Just trash. However, quick turnaround on the modern $10 a card standard submission. If I get my scanner working I will post the Ryans when they arrive because I really thought both were very clean looking.

Out of morbid curiosity, which service did you submit under?
i got about 25 9s 22 8s and 3 10s.
You are not alone....
I expected 15-20 10s
<< <i>manufactured rarities. If they awarded 10s to all the '86 Topps that deserve it they would no longer be rare. Buy PSA 9's for less than the cost of grading. You'll get cards that are every bit as nice as PSA 10s (at least for modern cards). >>
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
$10 modern.
At the moment that seems like a great idea! However, not nearly as much fun as hoping for a 10!
<< <i>wow you got screwed and tatooed on those 9's >>
That's pretty much what I was thinking.
<< <i>The pop report for '86 Topps Ryan cards has just got to be exploding right now. >>
That's what I'm expecting. PSA will hold down the PSA 10 population to keep those subs rolling in. In the meantime, PSA 9's will deteriorate to about $3 each on eBay as the population goes through the roof. Once the PSA 10 pop on the Ryan gets above 10, the reigns will be loosened and 10s will be awarded liberally. Then that pop 1 card becomes a pop 25 before you know it.
I have a few nice '86 Topps Ryans but I'm not going to bother submitting them. I probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting a 10 on that card right now. Maybe the key is to submit 100 nice vending examples. PSA may just award 1 of them with a 10 to offset the cost of submitting the other worthless 9s.
I no longer own these cards.
I would have to agree with you. 85 topps football i just got back today. I was expecting all 10's on these. They are completely flawless!!

<< <i>I know how you feel. I sent in a few 86's in on the June special. I got zero 10's, one 8 (Clemens), and the rest were 9's (2 Ryan's). The Ryans and the Clemens probably deserved their grade. But I sent in some commons (population of zero 10's) that were absolutley, positively flawless. There was not even a single speck of white on the black border, perfectly centered, no print flaws at all, and they got 9's. I was furious. Oh, well.
Here are some picture. I think everyone will agree.
I'll throw my 2 cents in and say - yes they look very nice - I think (and maybe other do also that they are not perfectly centered top to bottom as I look at some of the other scans) - just my 2 cents - and they are all that way - so maybe the straight 9's explains that ? I dont know - but I thought I'd throw that out there...

Its posts like this that always make me wonder why you all continue to spend so much money on grading.

<< <i>Oh, I think everyone sees the foolishness but when people will pay thousands for "low" pop cards from junk sets it's hard not to try. >>
Well I tried, I busted a 86 wax box last week I got from BBCE.
One thing I will have to say is that this set is starting to grow on me.... I might try and put together a nice mint set from some wax. Those cards look great in those PSA holders...
In comparison to larryallen73's scans, my cards suck.
Absolutely beautiful "9s"!
May need to crack and resubmit those gems.

Those aren't larryallen's. They are mine. Too bad that I've done sold them. I sold them with a complete 1986 factory set. Believe me, that set was loaded with cards just as nice. I only wanted to send in cards that had zero 10's. I could have sent in more, but I limited it to those. I sent those in on the same submission as I did the 93 Finest PSA 10 Ryan.

I purchased a factory sealed wax box on eBay. Absolutely incredible. I may do the same ... submit cards with zero 10s.
Nice cards, nonetheless!
<< <i>UPDATE- I got my cards back from PSA today. I won't bother scanning but it's interesting both Ryan's, which were graded 8's, have dinged corners now. I would NEVER have submitted them like that. Pisses me off. Since I use the naked eye for submitting, and rarely use the loupe, I miss some surface wrinkles but I never miss square corners. Both my Ryan's now have dinged corners. That sucks. Thanks a lot PSA! >>
That's sad - sorry to hear this.
And - it does happen - on a regular basis.
Did you scan the cards before submitting?
If so - you can - at least - write a nice note off the PSA about this.
