Safety box question for the brothers

During WWII, some of Europe's treasures were put in salt mines for safekeeping. Soooo with this thought in mind I built up a small sachet of crushed rock salt to plop in the safety box. I ain't got up enough nerve to do it yet. Good idea or bad?

i'd use a different type of desiccant than salt, silica and plastic zip lock bags and a humidity indicator...pink...blue those type of inexpensive ones.
