WOW - Look at the strike on this Texas Commem...

This is not my coin. I usually go for a different look but as I was looking around I saw this one and IMO it has to have one of the nicest strikes I've seen on a Texas. Is it just me or was this coin really hammered? (well struck). Even though its not mine we can do a guess the grade if you want.

A little too blast white for my tastes, but wow, that one's a pristine gem.
  • too bad it's the off-brand date, only 1836 counts in Texas! image

I won't be bidding on this one as I like a little rim toning just thought it was a sweet looking coin.

It's in an NGC MS67 holder.

Yep. To me, the 1936-dated Texas commems are the *real* Texas commems. The others are either celebrating 98, 99th, 101st or 102nd anniversaries. image

Wow. Incredible coin. How is the luster? With the luster that I assume it has, that is an old-time 66, but easily a 67 today. Very nice.

All I have to go off is these pics, but I'd bet the luster is rich. To me the crisp details are unbelievable. I see stuff on the coin now that I never have noticed before. I've had 2 PCGS 66's that I'd thought were decent in the past but neither had the crisp detail this one does. If I keep looking at it, I may end up liking it too much.......... to the detriment of my wallet. image

I'd imagine this NGC MS67 Texas would fit the bill!

I just bought a 1936 D Texas graded MS 67 by NGC for $350. I thought it was a very low price, possibly because the coin was much nicer than seller`s picture.

    Thats a crazy good coin!

That would be a proud center piece of any collection.

    Who's coin is it?
  • Similarly, I feel a bit "off" about my 1893 Columbian, but it is only an EF out of a $2.95 bargain-bin!
  • That's pretty sharp! MS66

Completely void of any toning/tarnish/coloration whatsoever, equates to negative eye-appeal IMO. Although the strike is nice.

  • Impressive picture too. Who photographed that coin?

I have to agree with ya dizzy. That coins looks nice for a strike but without color its so boring! I was thinking of finding a nicely toned texas commem for the 7070.
  • Where's the pic from? In my experience what's in the pic is not what the coin looks like in hand.

Call me a cynic, but that coin looks too good to be true...image

What a gorgeous coin! I always liked the design...the current mint engravers should be taking notes....

No chance that design would be used today.

    Dear Cynic,

The coin is in the Stacks 72cnd Anniversary sale coming up later this month. image

I only buy toned commems and I'm not sure if the luster is there or not. It also has a few tiny hits here and there....

But as far as "strike" goes... that is one hammered coin IMO
