Which method do you prefer??

I am thinking about selling some of my slabbed coins and just start to collect raw coins to fill up some albums. Just made some trade deals with my brother for some Walker halves to start me an album of those. I've picked up several Barber dimes off of Ebay also.

Which do you guys prefer to collect?? Slabbed coins or raw?? I am finding that raw coins for me are more fun to mess with. Plus going with raw coins is a little more affordable for me. Too many of these slabbed coins today appear to be cleaned to me so it worries me a bit in terms of the coins "true" value.
Blah Blah Blah!!!

i buy certified gold and i collect raw wheaties for my albums.

it makes sense to protect yourself on any coin over 100 dollars.

I like them both. When I sell off my Morgans and go back to early copper, I plan to work exclusively raw, and crack out any I get in slabs. For the DMPLs right now though, the certification offers physical and price protection.

  • Both. Some coins you just should not buy raw.
  • I have both, but I prefer PCGS graded coins. My reasoning is partly for "insurance" purposes; i.e., if something were to happen to me suddenly, I feel my family would have a somewhat easier time disposing of graded coins, than raw. Likewise, I feel the PCGS coins are a little better protected in their holder than raw in albums. JMHO.

I have both, although I prefer raw.... Should one wish to sell coins, the slabs will bring more cash. Cheers, RickO

    Great question.
Both are equally enjoyable to collect. I still remember so many threads where people were cracking out to "FREE" the coin from it's tomb. image
In the type set, this is understandable, but just be careful of "slide marks".
