In my sports related den, I have on display a large frame that holds baseball cards. Recently i decided that the cards in this display frame shall consist of the greatest players from each MLB Team. This has caused a tremendous amount of debate between family and friends. Some team's greatest player are a no brainer: Ruth is the greatest Yankee, Schmidt the greatest Phillie, Ted Williams the greatest RedSox, Brett for the Royals, Yount for the Brewers. Gwynn/Padres.
However, for some teams, the debate rages on.....
Who is the greatest player to ever wear the uniform for these teams: Cincinnati Reds? Chicago White Sox? Minnesota Twin? Houston Astros? Oakland Atheletics? Montreal EXpos?
For me, I put much emphasis on those who won a World Series Championship.
interested to know what you all think. Feel free to cite other teams as well. Thanks

Stargell the greatest Pirate? over Clemente? interesting.
maddux the greatest Atlanta Brave is a stretch for me. no offense.
<< <i>atlanta: um.. the HAMMER! followed by Maddux, Matthews and Murphy >>
Yeah, I kinda missed that one.
Chicago White Sox? Harold Baines and Frank Thomas
Minnesota Twin? Killebrew Puckett
Houston Astros? Nolan Ryan Biggio
Oakland Atheletics? Rickey Henderson
Montreal EXpos? Tim Raines
Cincinnati Reds--Rose or Bench (Spent his entire career with Reds)
Houston Astros-Biggio
Montreal Expos- Dawson
In Atlanta Maddux played more seasons than Aaron and won a World Series that you say you value so highly. Kid Nichols for the Boston Braves
Mays ahead of both Ott and Hubbell for the New York Giants is rediculous
Wagner had a better career than Clemente but played a couple seasons for Louisville Colonels. That was an interesting discovery
Henderson did more fot the Oakland A's than Jackson, but is behind two to one in World Series wins. Grove over Foxx for the Philadelphia A's is perhaps the closest call. Kansas City A's best player would be Siebern
I don't feel like looking through the St Louis Browns
Everything else looks correct
<< <i>Wagner had a better career than Clemente but played a couple seasons for Louisville Colonels. That was an interesting discovery >>
Had they not been "contracted" out of the NL in 1899, Louisville might have been a powerhouse in the first decade of the 1900s after being a doormat in the 1890s. Most of the nucleus of the great Pirates teams of that decade came from Louisville's stockpile of great young players just beginning to emerge.
In any event, I'd find it hard to find fault with taking either of Wagner or Clemente.

You could take one-armed outfielder Pete Gray or Eddie Gaedel the midget. )
Seriously, I'd say George Sisler.
