today's gvt job data is GARBAGE

Don't believe those numbers. Nice big upward revisions for July and Aug but yet unemployment continues to creep up by 0.1 percent. I will continue to live as though we are headed for a 1930's depression... Save, save, save. Spending only on necessities like Gold, Silver, and food. No junk from China and absolutly no new car.

If we would go into a depression, why would gold and silver be more valuable? Why wouldn't food, water and medicine be more valuable, and gold and silver be worthless?

it seems his/her/it's nickname is a play on people with multiple mortgages...
and his lack of wanting them.

i did not read it to mean they personally have multiple loans...

think of saintguru as the one who pays for big coins with mortgages :-)))

You know it is good to plan for the worst but you can go to far. It is ironic that the more we fear the worst, the more likely it is to come true. Much if the economy depends on general confidence in it like our fiat money. If we keep our heads on straight then what some fear to be a depression would turn out to be a mere fluctuation that is normal in a healthy economy. Of course there are the political manipulators that would love to score points with a recession during a Presidential election because they are void of any real solutions. Call me conspiratorial but I wouldn't be surprised if a recession is being manufactured for political reasons by very influential movers and shakers. Maybe I am givine them to much credit.

    The numbers are alway cooked.

People who have stopped looking for jobs are not 'unemployed'. They are not counted.

Plus, more people are coming into the work force. Something like 100,000 jobs must be created just to keep par.

Plus, I don't consider losing your $75,000 job to outsourcing and having to work at Walmart 'employment'. Yea, people are working but not like they used to.

The Govt can pump all they want, the people know what's up, they feel it every day.

Do you actually know people who cannot find a job or do you just believe the talking points of the DNC?

Tax revenues are up quite a bit from what I heard and that is the best indicator of the economy assuming the tax code has not been changed greatly. If people make more they pay more to uncle sam. If they are all loosing $75K jobs for Walmart then tax revenues would be down. This is the best indicator to me of the health of the economy and the other stuff out of the politicians mouths IS GARBAGE.

To keep this coin-related, I'm wondering if the current economic situation will cause bullion coins to outperform collector coins ?

Come to Michigan. There are thousands of people who have lost their jobs and have no hope of ever making the kind of money they used to make ever again. They are called union autoworkers.

Not to take lightly the real losses in the auto industry, you cannot extrapolate one industry into the economy as a whole. The auto industry has to get real to survive. You cannot promise everyone who works there a fat retirement for the rest of their lives and expect to roll the cost into each car sold. Eventually economics will catch up with you. The government is also placing more and more loads of regulations on the industry concerning safety and emissions. It is not like the glory days in the assembly line.

Yep, the definition of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Funny thing, those who cry the sky is falling, the economy is tanking, every year, one of these days they will eventually be right, but noone knows when. Me, I will continue to live as I did yesterday, and the day before.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Good points! I agree. As to somebody saying the numbers are cooked, people will believe what they want to believe. When the numbers disagree with their opionions, they are cooked but when the numbers agree with them, then they use it to further their agenda. You can't have it both ways.
