My new customized holders

I just had these customized holders made for a couple of my medals. These were just prototypes to see what I liked best. I thought I'd share a few pictures.

This one has been certified by NGC. Unfortunately, they only provide a PhotoCert. This is so much better.

Also what is the largest size medal you can have encased?

    Is the lettering costly?

    Details - we want detailsimage

Anything can be done, depends on how much you want to spend. The large hole in the black is sized to 110mm. They can be made larger if needed. The first one is sized at 5.5 inches by 5.5 inches. The second is 5.5 by 6 inches. The lettering is not costly. $50 for a holder of this size which includes customized lettering. Cheaper than a custom picture frame.

Those are really smart (and large)! Who makes them? Does the company have a website?

Edited to eliminate question already answered.

I got to see them in hand yesterday. They are VERY COOL!!! The black insert looks very nice against the silver colored medal!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    TTT for the night crowd.
  • Those look awesome. Very classy. The only thing I would change is to recess the screw heads.

Nice... I have said before, if the one of TPG's would just hire a Packaging Engineer (even on contract), they would blow away the competition.
There is so much that could be done to improve the slabs, and a professional could do it for them. Cheers, RickO

Good idea. I'll have to see if/how we can do that.

How about thickness? That's been the sticking point for me when I looked for holders. I had one medal that would have fit in NGC's diameter limit, but couldn't be slabbed because it was something like 6mm thick.

Should I ask about multiholders? image

Thickness is not an issue. You just need to provide accurate maximum diameter and thickness measurements. The medals can be up to half an inch thick! # of holds is also not an issue except for cost. That's what's great. Total customization. Here's the problem. The hold is not angle-cut like a Capital holder. Therefore, you want to try to have pieces of similar thickness in a holder together.

Cool, it is very hard to find holders for high releif medals.

I wonder if we will see a NGC band going around one of these soon?

similar stuff can be custom ordered from Capital Plastics, they'll do just about anything you ask. i'm surprised more collectors don't avail themselves of their work.

Yeah, I tried to send an email to Capital to get a quote on a custom holder and the email was sent back by their server saying that the mailbox was full. I guess that it will take awhile to get anything custom from them if they can't even check emails.

well, Tom, i guess i have a distinct advantage in that area; i live only about a 20 minute drive away from Capital Plastics!!!!! try giving them a phone call before an e-mail and you should be able to talk to a customer service representative and make progress if their holders are what you want. a better route is to see them at a show and place an order with the rep's attending, i assume you'd be able to learn what their show schedule is either from their web site, a phone call or perhaps an e-mail!!image
