You know you have a keeper coin when...

despite that it is not offered for sale, multiple people make contact to buy it from you. It's a little bit of a Catch-22.

Sorry guys, not for sale. image

Post a coin for which you have received unsolicited offers and any related anecdotes.

This one turned out to be much more popular than I had anticipated and I have had several offers since purchasing it ... I would like to find a 1794 Dollar in VF35 to match it.

I'm thinking that knowledge of your recent decision to divest prompted offers that wouldn't otherwise have been made. At least that's what I'm telling myself as a sit here without having received a single expression of interest in any Shield 5c that I've ever posted. image

Even though it's not in the same class as some of the coins posted above, I've had a few inquiries about this Barber.

    Robec,

That coin is magnificent, I can see how many would be interested in it.

No wonder TDN. It's very rare. One of the very few Seated Dollars with the "seeing eye" on the left breast. image

I've got a number of coins that unsolicited offers have been made on. This coin is probably the top coin for that category...

TDN's Dollar is a no brainer - but you know - that 1844 quarter is, in its own way, even sweeter.

You suck Robert. Just plain evil posting it again. I thought you were going to sell to me as a present for making LCDR.

I have a few that people have begged for. My 1872 half, dime and half dime...my 1916 five franc...and lots of my old bust halves.

Of course I begged a member for the 1872 half. I really miss my 1823 half that I got from TomB...but I know it is in good hands.

I have posted this coin on numerous occasions in several contests, and have received more than one PM inquiring about selling it:

I want to get it graded to see if it would make P1, but alas I am not a PCGS member.

In the DMPL world, there is a short list of serious collectors for the top grades and the rarest of the rare. There is even a shorter list of those rarest of the rarre dates. When one of us gets one of those, the rest of us scream a collective, "YOU SUCK!" I have some of those coins and the other guys have some of the others. Unsolicited offers come all the time.....as if we would forget those we know are interested. Yes, those, indeed, are the keepers.

While it's far, FAR from the eye candy posted elsewhere in this thread, I did once receive admiration and an offer to buy this one, off my Holey Gold Hat, from a sage forum member who's an enthusiast of the 1860 "threeagle", which he apparently considers to be a sleeper date. (There's probably not much sleeper potential with my particular example, but it makes nice hat bling, and I like it.)
