Can someone help me with a value for these?

These were my husband's and I'm trying to figure out the value. All of these have certificates of authenticity.

You can can see certification numbers on a few of them, little stickers in the bottom left or right corners. Who cares about the LOA's unless she's trying to sell them to you? A few have the look of auto-pen or like printed 8x10s with signatures. So the owner should watch out for that.

They all look legit to me , really nice pictures , I like the Slaughter best , Pic # 2 .

    You can find out the value of each of them by trying to look at past auctions , or just do a search { Autographed Enos Slaughter picture }

Reprints will go for less than originals naturally, so it depends on what the authentication is for , just the sigs or authentic original or both .

Autographed originals would be quite rare .
  • Thank you... All of the signatures are original (he was really careful about who and what he bought). I'll post some more because there are several that I have no idea who they are.

    Hi

You asked about values? Well, it does heavily depend upon authenticity.

I'll try to give you a range - but they'll be based on PSA/DNA authenticity. These are for other than balls, bats and jerseys - some kind of "flat" item:

    1. Doby - $20-30
    2. Slaughter - $10-30
    3. Feller - $8-20
    4. Drysdale - $20-60
    5. Hubbell - $25-60
    6. Day - not sure - insufficent data - one sold for $30
    7. Leonard - $10-30

The range is based on what is signed - some of the Perez-Steele postcards will bring more than a signature on a 3X5 index card or a stock photo e.g.

  • Mike, THANK YOU -- I really appreciate your help.

Is eBay the best source for pricing on this stuff? He's got a lot of things - bats, balls, jerseys, a ton of photos (some framed)...

    Yes.

If you're not familiar - what ya want to do is go to the blank space where ya can enter info - instead to the right of the blank space is a phrase: ADVANCED SEARCH

Press on that and enter what you're looking for - don't forget check the box: completed listings only and you'll get what they have at the time.

Now, there'll be lots more Doby sigs than I saw since I specificially searched under the title - Larry Doby PSA/DNA - since I wanted a good COA with the values.

I wish you all the best - don't hesitate to ask questions about what you have - and my best advice?

Don't let anyone STEAL this stuff from ya! There's a lot of good dealers out there but unfortunately a lot of bad ones also.

  • Thanks, Mike... I'm not letting any of it go -- it'll all be put away for our son but he's only 4 so I'll hold onto it for a long time. My husband died unexpectedly about 8 weeks ago, at 41, and he lived & breathed baseball. He knew what he had -- but we never got it inventoried which is what I'm trying to do now.

That said -- can you tell me who in the heck these two guys are? (My husband would be HORRIFIED, I know image )

  • OH, and I just realized the certificates I'm finding on most of these ARE PSA/DNA certificates so I think I'm in good shape... I know he was extremely careful about what he bought -- he got taken for about $10k about 15 years ago and was always really careful after that.
  • Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain.

  • Thanks for the info on that last picture...

He has a Buck Leonard that is a Perez-Steele postcard... I'll be sure to look for that specifically when trying to price it.

Wow. So sorry to hear about that.

Guys, i know we hate talking about it, but these things happen. In with your papers (will, life insurance, etc) you need to have your inventory, what it's worth, update it yearly and the contact of a trusted friend (fellow collector or dealer, for your family if they decide to sell your estate. My wife hates it when I show her all this stuff every year and she cries after we are done, but it's sooooo important to have it ready. You can see by my sig line that my father passed very early and it took my mother, brother and myself to track everything down so my mother wouldn't have to worry. Please take this time to do it. Joe

I can't stress this enough... My husband was only 41 years old and perfectly fine the morning of August 7th. He died of an aortic dissection (his aorta ruptured). We didn't know he was sick -- in fact, we learned it wouldn't have shown up on any tests. It was likely something he'd had since birth (a thin area in his aorta) and his death was instant. I was widowed at 38 and we have a 4 1/2 year old son. It *can* happen in an instant. And while I encouraged my husband's hobby of baseball memorabilia collecting -- I never got really involved because it was *his* thing. I'm lost right now trying to figure it all out... It's not pleasant to think about -- who knew he'd die at 41? -- but you've GOT to get your stuff in order, just in case...
  • Two more... Any idea who they are?

    image

My scanner cut off part of this signature... It's all there...

    Thanks in advance...

Mickey Owen and Tommy Henrich - that was in the '41 WS and Brooklyn fans are still upset a zillion years later! May be one of the most famous passed balls for a 3rd strike hit in the history of baseball! Only thing bigger? The shot heard round the world - Thompson's HR off Branca in '51 to deny the Bums access to the WS that year!

    Orlando Cepeda.

To me prsonaly ebay is never a good place to price something. Seems like people want things for free on ebay. Most times on ebay your item will sell for way lower than it really could sell. I think ebay is bad for cards and collectibles(to sell it anyway). Its not advertised to any collector's like a Mastronet, Memorylane and so on. You gotta be lucky on ebay if the right person is watching or even saw your item. You can have an idea that would sell for 30 bucks on ebay and then sell for 300 bucks in some auction house. I know not every item is auction house worthy but hey what are you gona do right? We other choice but ebay do you have? Actualy we got thse boards I think right? I never really trade here, i'm kinda new. Can you sell on these boards? Hope that helped and just figured to share with youimage

It really depends upon the item.

For average stuff - and these sigs are - unfortunately - about as average as they come - ebay is the only way other than setting up at a show or consign them to a shop where you may get people who don't do a lot of shopping on ebay.

For most items - ebay now sets the price - far more accurate than a price guide IMO.

  • HAHAHAHA, i'm a little tired guys. I wrote something above that makes no sense LOL. I say you can have an idea that would sell for 30 bucks HAHAHA. I must be drunk, anyway I meant you can have a card that would normaly sell for $30 on ebay were the same card in an auction house can sell for $300. LOL, sorry about thatimage

I've been on the road all day, so I had to catch up on the thread.

It surely materialized into more than I had ever imagined, and to Perkioman, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your son.

You've come to the right place for these kinds of questions. You'll find the BEST hobby detectives here, which is normally a great thing. I'm glad to know a beautiful autograph collection is going to be preserved for the next generation of hobby enthusiasts out there, and, for your son, this will be much more.

Thank you for posting some classic signatures.

My condolences also. I lost my dad at 50 and my mom was in your shoes, but we kids were a little older. She went thru hell as I'm sure you are.

With the autos you've shown so far, they were almost all great players and great signers. It's a good thing to have legit autographs of great ballplayers but since they were great signers and signed for anybody who wanted them to, the values of the ones you've shown aren't really going to ever get sky high. If you're not desperate for money right now it's great if you can hang onto them for your son.

Tuff Stuff magazine usually has a list of autograph values for flats, balls, jerseys, etc in the back. It's not always extremely accurate, since like Mike (Stone) said there are a lot of things that affect an autograph's value. If you don't have any old Tuff STuff magazines, and you PM me your mailing address I'll send you a couple so you have a reference point. Like I said they're not incredibly accurate, but you'll see that a Thurman Munson might be worth $500 and a Bob Feller worth $40 so you'll see that one is obviously more valuable and it would give you an idea to look further.

Whatever you do, think twice and get a 2nd opinion before you sell anything. We've all seen times when somebody bought something dirt cheap because "they didn't know what they had". The people here are great people for the most part and usually are glad to help.

Again welcome and I'm sorry for your loss. image
