Long Beach Newp--sort of, working man's coin

I got shut out at Long Beach so I bought this coin at the local BandM today. It reminded me of the type of coin my dad would have pulled out of circulation as a young man and kept in his old cedar chest for 50 years. He's not a collector but saves anything he thinks may be rare.

Neat surfaces. Former jewelry mount (can see the rim clips at 1:00 and 11:00 obverse and opposite on the reverse) but still a neat coin.

That's actually a rim ding which would assist in bb'ing the coin along with the very very faint hairlines. But what can you expect for $7.50. The hairlines are one of the things that reminded me of my dad. I could picture him trying to polish it up. --Jerry

Look on the reverse rim, above the O in WORLD and O in CHICAGO, as they are clearer than their obverse counterparts. Look like mechanical cuts. Nonetheless, helluva nice coin for $7.50.

Yeah, after I replied I looked closer and see what you mean. But how could it tone so evenly in jewelry...I hope I didn't get ripped off. image

Coins like this one are what collecting is about. No slab, no grade inflation, no hype; Just an attractive coin that brings back fond memories. Not to mention one that is affordable to most anyone.

It looks like the one with the repunched 3 in the date to me. Neat. I don't think there is a premium for those, but they are cool. Maybe 1 in 50 or so have that ???

Ricko, are you referring to somebody from Colombia or to the coin? (I know - picky, picky, picky)

Nice coin for $7.50.image I like circulated coins too, you can pass it around and don't have to worry that they might drop it.
