I handle gold very infrequently. These look a little funny. Real or counterfeit? Any comments would be appreciated.

The surfaces appear to be polished and pitted to all heck, which is quite a feat. I vote counterfeit.

Update the pics. The fields and surfaces do look pitted. Upon checking in the PCGS Guide, they mentioned casting as a counterfeit technique. I hadn't seen any examples -- apparently until now.

From the pics it looks highly unlikely that it's authentic.

Weighing it will give you a better sense.

The red "x's" look genuine to me. But I can't tell whether the coins are genuine or not.

In my opinion they look like cast counterfeits based on these pictures.

Can you do a good picture of the edge of the coin? Do you see any indication of a seam where the two halves were joined?

I have seen counterfeits that look better. My MS 1868 $1 dollar
Indian fooled me for over 40 years. Yep the gold is in there.
It was brought back from Germany after WW II and probably
coined in India during the Great Depression.

Authenticating gets very tricky after the surfaces have been destroyed by polishing. I can't be certain without having it in my hand, but the picture of the 1907 quarter eagle appears to be a genuine coin, likely removed from jewelry.

The coin could be a victum of tumbling. Gold coins
placed in a tumbler will flake off bits of gold and is collected.
Thus free gold for a ring ect.--an old jewelers trick.

The way to find out for sure is to send it to ANACS. They'll slab it if it's genuine. The other services will just BB it and you can't be sure it's real if it's bodybagged for something else.

Ahhhhhhhh...... Did you weigh it? Did you check the diameter? First thing you should before posting a pic.

Weight: 4.18 grams.
Diameter: 18 mm.

17.75 mm diameter by 1.23 mm thick - no noticeable casting marks on edge
