Do auctions like this get around the new ebay policy?

Nowhere does the auction say certified, but the picture leads one to believe it is.

  • I hope part of the new regulations is that the seller can't show the slab
    ONLY the coin
    that will help tremendously
If one see's a slab they automatically think it's graded

Good Morning Utah, yes that would be skirting the issue. The good thing is that if you are searching for PCGS, NGC,
etc, this coin would not come up. I don't believe that you can't say it's AU or EF or UNC. Those terms are acceptable
    I believe.

ebwcoin just put up some PCI slabbed large cents. Here's one. He doesn't mention the slab or the grade in the title. he shows a photo of the obv and rev of each coin. He states the grade in the auction and he shows a cropped photo of just the label. I'm wondering how this will go over. --jerry

Don't know the prices but my wife was really smiling! That is what actually woke me up! Now, is it because we argued over some
gold I put up on ebay for 99cents opening bid? She's the reason!! Aaaaaargh.

Huh? It says both PCI and MS-64 in the title. Reported.

Yes, this is okay. I believe the primary stipulation is what's in the title. They make no reference to certification or a numerical grade in the title, so it's good to go.

Personally I won't report stuff like this unless it's a really slimeball, dregs-of-the-earth slabber (or a self-slabber with Coin World holders). While the grading of the modern PCI leaves a lot to be desired, they (and SEGS) are clearly more legitimate than the crap slabbers they're being lumped in with due to this eBay policy.
  • I put this up ( 280157676199) the other night to test the new rules, went off without a hitch, the buyer e-mailed me and said

Oops. I linked the wroing item. His auctions that end after the 10/1 enforcement date don't.
  • I know you can't list a grade or low class slabber in the title, but can they list it in the sub title?

I think title and subtitle live under the same rules as searches search both.

BTW, here is how he is doing it now.

He described this PCI MS65 as "choice BU" in the title which I think meets ebay rules not to use a number but in the body of the description he quotes the numerical grade and shows a picture of the label which I'm pretty sure is a violation. i'd say this is one of the last ones they should go after, we have seen many examples of much worse, but I think technically this is in violation. And given how disorganized things are, this one will probably get nuked before the NNC bozos.

Wonder why so many people are trying to nuke PCI and SEGS auctions...There are plenty of unslabbed fakes to report
if someone doesn't have enough to do.

I think eBay is trying to minimize the potential for these to come up in searches, as they also are with keyword spamming. Surprised the seller didn't consider making it say 1893-SILVER MORGAN DOLLAR in the title to get 1893-S searches steered his way.

Reported the following auction Ebay scumbucket

& received the following response from eBay:
    Dear eBay Member,

Thank you for taking the time to report these potentially violating
    listings to eBay.

At this time we are giving our Coin Community until Oct. 1st before our
new policies are enforced straight across the board. If these listings
had been reported after 10/1/07 they would indeed be in violation.

Because this policy will effect thousands of sellers we are trying to
give them some time to revise their listing templates, discuss the
policy with us if they have questions and bring their auctions into
    compliance.

Thank you for being a valuable member of the eBay community. Have a
wonderful time shopping and selling on eBay!
