Nice cards all around! Where do you guys find addresses for these players? And are there any current players that are likely to sign at all?
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.
  • Options
Do you guys send SASE? I apologize if that is obviously a stupid question but I have never done it before, so I am assuming you do. Please confirm, thanks.....and great looking stuff in this thread!!!!!!

Yes a SASE is the way to go.. Most of us I think are members of www.sportscollectors.net. This site has several thousand player addresses available.

Aside from the SASE, I send them a short computer printed letter thanking them for their time and such. Unless it is a special player or some reason I want to talk more with them it is pretty much a form letter. Some say you should hand write all requests, but I have not seen a difference in responses either way.

I use www.startiger.net which has athletes and celebrities.

    Hey buddy,
yes that would be my ultimate goal, a signed '57 topps set. I dont think that would really be feasible, so I am working on a complete '57 set with as many signed as I can get. I hope to have 40 or 50 signed in the complete set. I have 30 right now with about 15 out in the mail somewhere that may show up or may not. Here are my autographed ones:
    Signed 57 Topps FB

PS: is that '75 tarkenton the one I sent yoU?

    thanks

Got one more for my set today (and a Packer to boot!) He sent an extra card of his own signed for me as well. He stole my holder and sent both cards back naked in the envelope, but somehow the 57 still arrived nm (whew.)

    Hi Barry
sorry to take over your thread with my posts.
I have 34 signed cards, and for the set as a whole (signed and unsigned combined) I'm probably lacking 30 or 40.

Great mailday for you. the 59 boessler looks real , real nice. Boessler is the last card in the '58 set. Have you considered putting together any of these sets? you seem to have a lot of 58s and 59s. the individual cards wont break the bank if they get lost (esp the 59s), the sets arent super big, they look great, you seem to have some of both. would be a real neat collection (yours already is)

Probably a stupid question but what does TTM mean??
  • Options
    tennesseebankertennesseebanker Posts: 5,428 ✭✭✭
Yes I wanted to do a 59 set, and kinda talked myself out of it realizing how many players in the set are passed away and a few are impossible signers. I guess I wanted to make my first set a little easier so I am going 50/50 with another collector on the 88 Topps set. I guess I could do both, and even if I dont complete the 59 I would still have a great looking almost complete set.

It would be really really expensive (maybe impossible) to put together a complete signed '59 set. Although, it wouldn't be too hard to put half of it together signed and the other half unsigned, and would be really really neat.
