NGC Black Slab (NGC 1) changes hand again - Pictures are shown

orevilleoreville Posts: 12,148 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have just acquired this NGC black slab from a coin collector who acquired this previously from Cameron. Cameron had also purchased this black slab back in 2003 from a prominent PCGS message board member.

This is my first NGC black slab with a silver coin. I really like the gold coins I have in my NGC black slabs but not as much with the silver coins.

How much of a premium does the black insert slabs bring? I'd love to buy one with a gold coin but I have no idea what they are worth. My rarest slab is a PCGS Regency slab.

I wish they would go back to the black insert...it looks better!

The ICGs with the black Intercept Shield inserts looked really snazzy with gold in 'em, too.

  • Was there ever a sample slab for this holder?

Back in the 60`s-70`s, Capitol had black and white square holders I used for my gold coins. I thought the gold coins looked so much better in the black holders! They should go back to the blacks for gold coins.

Interesting to think that the NGC black holders are worth a lot more than the coins in them. Had someone just collected the cheapest black slabs possible back in 1987, they'd be sitting pretty today.
This proves NGC plastic is worth more than PCGS plastic. The irony is incredible.

Can you say that PCGS First Strike slabs are worth a lot more than the coins in them? If so, the value of the NGC black slab probably isn't that incredible.

    Cool slab by the way!

  • I've _always been partial to the Capital Black holders for my Gold coins..

*****Wish NGC & PCGS would offer a Black slab as an option now !! I would be willing to pay for the choice...

I love reading what seems like a new, interesting thread and then seeing I replied already, thinking it was interesting the first time around too!

Love the black slabs. Thanks for bringing this back!

I never see them.. Very few in existence and they command a HUGE premium.....far more than the value of the coin. I would like to own ANY NGC 1.0 Black slab.
