  • That sucks, but it's not unusual on eBay... their shipping discount could be better, but, again, some volume sellers don't even offer a discount!

Thanks for the heads-up though. I'm particularly glad you posted this warning to every forum. *grin*

If the seller does not mention it in his listing, it is the bidders responsibilty to ask before bidding (and then factor the shipping charges into their bids)

    Is it high/overpriced shipping?--Yes

Is it shady?--No (as Mosiac metioned, some sellers do not give any combined shipping discount.)
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

  • 4 sharp corners charges 8.00 for 3 cards...

    I agree with Akbar...

    Bad business policy...yes
    Excessive shipping...probably
    Shady..No, policy was listed
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • Never assume anything about shipping prices if they're not listed.
That's why there's the 'ask the seller a question' tab to hit on the ebay auctions. If you're not sure what the seller may charge, you should ask them. If they don't answer your question, then don't bid on their stuff. It's pretty simple.
  • never amazes me how much anger is directed toward overpaying (possibly/arguably) $1 or $2 for a set of auctions.

like I've said before - wish I had your problems!!

and where exactly do you ship 5 PSA cards first class that costs $6-7?
  • Well, the mailer is about a dollar, the stamps can be around $2, gas to the post office could be $2.00, your time could be worth $2.00

That's around $7 to ship a single order not including insurance.

    Seems high, but not excessive.

I usually charge 3.50-4.50 depending on if it's graded or not. I will add insurance if buyer wants it.

Note: This is only for ebay. I'll negotiate a total price including postage if I sell on this board...

Sorry to hear about your situation but you should have requested what combined S/H would be on multiple purchases.

Because of the circumstances, posting the Seller's eBay ID is one thing but to post their personal info is out of line, in my opinion.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • I think if you win 2 or 3 cards, this is perfectly acceptable. If it's more than 3, then it is a bit excessive but certainly not worth a "warning" IMO. However, it is always a good practice to mention shipping charges for multiple cards, particularly if you sell cards in lots like this seller does.

Never assume anything - ask before purchasing - graded cards obviously add weight unlike raw - not real far off with the "extra charges" - sour grapes with the whole personal info stuff - not needed...

I was charged $14 for shipping on 6 graded cards. It was in the description but I still questioned the seller and here was my response.

"My shipping charges include "handling" fees becuase I pay someone to do my shipping. Remeber, you are getting these cards at a price that is barely more than what I paid to have them graded. I'm sorry it seems like a lot, but I did count on getting the full shipping fees that I advertise in my auctions just to barely break even on these cards."

Your getting ripped off on bubble mailers, you can buy them for 15 cents or less, you can have the post office come pick the package up for you, and if you feel the need to charge people for your time to ship a sportscard, well, you still aren't close to the actual cost.
  • The PO does not do pickup at all locations. Locally starting next year we will have to have a PO box as our local PO is cutting off delivery of mail to cut costs. This is happening in many towns with a population of less than 1000.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I have a simple solution to problem..............

Don't bid on auctions were seller don't spell out shipping terms or other terms of the sale.... Move on, plenty of good sellers that have very clear S/H charges in their auctions.

Or just figure it into your bid, just like you would an auction house commission.

oh my god!!! $6-7 for 5 PSA graded cards!

    Easily. 1st class posting = $2.50 or so. signature confirmation = $2.00. insurance = $2.30

    again, so much anger directed.
