<< <i>Aren't the Tiffanys on a different card stock? Don't they have a white back like the Traded's? Perhaps someone should ask to see a scan of the back! >>
Yes they do. They have a glossy front and white card back. ALL Tiffanys from ALL years have that.
<< <i>Considering that there are 18 PSA 10 Tiffany Ryans, well, I'd say the high bidder would be awfully pissed! >>
Tiffany cards are much easier in higher grade due to them being higher quality cards. >>
That is why I never understand Tiffany's going for so much more than a regular issue with that crappy paper stock. I understand Tiffany's are limited, I would still rather have a PSA 10 regular Ryan than a PSA 10 Tiffany. That is the way I feel with most Topps cards that I want for my collection that have a Tiffany issue also .
Interesting a back like that will still garner a 10 and 2K. Huh, I paid around that for my low-grade '51 Bowman Mick - I'd rather have the Mick anyway but I s'pose that's me.
I hope that offcolor watermark on the upper left is a scanner artifact and not on the card.
In any event, HOW DID THAT GET A 10?! I know the back isn't as important as the front, but that centering is off L/R and T/B... for $2,000+ someone is buying the holder and not the card. That's a 9 in a 10 holder.
The card checks out all right in the certification verification. However, don't most newly graded cards have a digit other than zero as the first of the eight-digit cert number?
<< <i>The card checks out all right in the certification verification. However, don't most newly graded cards have a digit other than zero as the first of the eight-digit cert number? >>
psa started using the certs beginning with zero again....within the past year or so
If that is the only ten out of 300 graded that is sad. For the first 10 to have a back like that is disappointing.
Wasn't there just a thread on sellers of high grade cards not scanning the back. WHoever gets that in the mail after dropping possibly 5k is going to be pissed.
Did anyone else who looks at the 86 topps pop. report and see that Bret Saberhagen a oddly large amount of cards graded. Almost an many as Nolan. Who is going to grade 300 1986 topps cards???
It is a ridiculous price to pay IMO...but this is a very hard set. I recently ripped a rack box, figured hey lets give it a shot for 18 bucks. Out of the 2 Ryans I got, one has a stain on the front maybe a PD, and the other is maybe a 9, prob an 8. The whole set just seems pretty tough to find high grades.
It might be a tough set but as many have said, there is still a LOT of '86 Topps product out there. In the meantime someone is selling a BEAUTIFULLY centered 1969 Topps PSA 9 Ryan for $1400 (and it even has a Or-Best-Offer on it!!). HMMMMMMMM, an '86 Topps for over $2000 or a '69 PSA 9 for much less?????
I would be willing to bet 20k that if you crack and resubmit that card it would never get a 10. If someone wants to make that wager i will win the card and we can do it. Still cant get over about how ugly the back is.
I'm curious. There was, about a month ago or so, a thread about this particular card before there was one graded a 10 and we were discussing what a 10 would possibly bring.
Can anybody find it because i can't.
Never mind, I found it. The original thread asking how much it would bring was started August 27th. The thread stating one had been graded a 10 was started September 7th. A little less than two weeks passed. Seems a little coincidental, no? Kind of reminds me of when an OPC Gretzky rookie was graded a 10 by one company. (It was BGS, SGC, or GAI. I honestly cannot remember.) Lo and behold, a PSA 10 Gretzky showed up about a month or so later. (It subsequently sold for $80,000.)
It seems that sometimes it just takes either a little nudging from the competition or interest on these boards for a card to obtain a certain grade by PSA.
i've never submitted.....this pretty much says i've never REsubmitted. so, when someone resubmits, do they actually crack open the case, remove the card, and send it in, or do they send in its graded holder? also, say this card WAS (stupidly) resubmitted and came back a 9....the registry would still register one 10? i wonder how many cards are out there this has happened to- 8s to 9s, 9s to 8s, etc...... guess there's a certain margin of error in most pop reports, eh?
It seemed a little odd to me that the first 10 showed up in the population report 3 or 4 weeks ago and it wasn't listed on ebay until last week. This just didn't make sense and I had a feeling that on Monday morning the population would become 2. Well, as I thought, the population is now listed as 2.
The 'official' population report may not be updated until later today, but here's a link to my set, just scan down and take a look at the pop of card #100.
I always follow the 86T listings and this seller never takes this into account when he quotes the populations. A little misleading? What do you guys think?
I drop my initial selling price from 5475 to 2675, now that there are two of these cards listed in the pop report. But I do wonder, would the buyer have a great excuse now to withdraw their bid, especially if they can show that when the card was listed, there were in fact 2 of the cards, and not only 1 PSA 10, as stated in the auction? Assuming of course that there were 2 of the 10s in existence at the time.
I realize everybody collects differently but it just seems crazy to pay so much for a card just because it says that it's a "10." I would be plenty happy with a nice 9 for $10. I just do not get it why people pay SOOOOOOO much more for a 10. I understand it's rare but come on, that's a LOT of dough for a modern card.
" I just do not get it why people pay SOOOOOOO much more for a 10. I understand it's rare but come on, that's a LOT of dough for a modern card.
Well, its condition sensitive! But I'd take a 9, heck or an 8. The number on the front isnt important to me. I would have no problem selling this card and pocketing the cash cha-ching!
Just for Sh!ts and giggles I bought a rack case of 1986's from BBCE. I just wanna see how bad the cards are out of the packs. Should be fun to rip 21 year old packs.
In fact 1986 topps racks were the first baseball packs i had bought in a long long time. (I collected star wars cards, not baseball as a kid) The first pack I bought had both a Wade Boggs and a Don mattingly in it! I was stoked.

i did this a few weeks ago. it was a blast! most cards are pretty crappy but a few will be nice and all of the same card in the case will be nice. i got lucky and all my clemens cards were very nice. the ryans were off center and had print defects.

biff, i noticed the bidding slacked too. i'm assuming the snipes are set.
prscott, good luck on the clemens. all my clemens seem to be o/c along with schmidt, puckett, boggs, eric davis, brett and sandberg...ugh. however, the ryans were decent. would love to see that sub pop...

It's a little late but yeah there are millions sitting out there. The only way it becomes rarer than that if dealers start destroying their inventory to make room for newer sets. If BBCE can offer boxes at 13$ how hard are they to replace? My friend that was a distributer for a candy co. is sitting on 50 cases. 750,000 cards would be about 92,000 cases of wax boxes or about 1800 per state. You know they issued complete sets, racks, vending etc. so that number is really low.
