I got me a '37P wheatie in change today

valuable ? nope.

interesting? yep. always fascinates me to know this thing has been flowing around in circulation for 70 years... for double my lifetime.

it's now on my monitor stand at work with all the 'interesting' things if gotten in circulation.

a couple war nickels, a '43 washie, and a 1930 buff nickel...

that is all...

  • Does it actually have a P on it? I have never seen a wheat penny with a P. I have S,D and no mint mark. Do you have apicture of it? If so I would like to see it.

no no... no mintmark (hence, Philly)... I just put that in there so people wouldn't ask about S or Ds (lower mintage)

    sorry for the confusion *blush*
  • Oh, I see. Well I knew the plain was Philly but you never know what is going to show up in change these days. I know there are some tricksters out there trying to cause trouble. I had a customer with a double headed quarter and so he was really disappointed when he found out you could buy those at shops. I sold a man a roll of Kansas quarters and right on the end was a strange one. I have tried to get him to submit it to PCGS but he does not trust the mail. ( I am not sure I do either ) But he is afraid to take it to a dealer too so how is he going to get anything for it I asked him this and he just dreams he will I guess. He also has a dime like that too, but the he handles them like common change and I cringe.

    I know image
  • I wonder what percentage of wheaties are released back into circulation by other collectors.

  • Similar - got an 11-D wheat in change last weekend at the local WalMart. Just a cent in spending value, but $6 in my mind. image

  • I'm putting about 25 Wheaties back into circulation every week.

Maybe it will set off a spark of interest.

Thanks guys ... I keep all I find... not sure why, but I have rolls and rolls and rolls of them now.. and I have yet to find a rainy Sunday to search them.. who knows what treasures lie within.. been saving them for 40 years. Will be fun when I finally do get to them. Cheers, RickO
