Who else avoids "First Strike" designation?

I did a search on ebay for 2007 PCGS under ASE's and found only 1 without the first strike designation. The first strike's just dont fit in with the rest of the set with the normal labels. The same with most modern sets. Which labels do you prefer?

I believe that FS is nothing but nonsense and just another way to generate income for the TPGs.

At first I prefer to have designation. Now it's everywhere and I could care less about it.

Not really, I'm sure they could resubmit it for a regrade if you got a 69 and thought it should be a 70. If it made the grade I'm sure the FS would be put on the new label since you already paid for it once.

I do not consider it and would not purchase it ... If you read the US Mint disclaimer, you will realize it is nothing more than hype. A hook for neophytes and the uninformed. Cheers, RickO

PCGS = HSN with that labelimage Big Hype that won't pay off in the end IMO. In fact a couple years after release I've purchased the plat's at no extra cost with the FS label. The real money is finding a sucker when they first come out that doesn't know squat about collecting coins, these are for flippers only but the secret is becoming clear and will fade .

I will take one if the price is right, but I don't look for them!

If you really believe first strike is meaningless then avoiding it seems just as contradictory as seeking it.

Personally, I always prefer first strike.

That would involve PCGS knowingly acknowledging the coin is under graded and make it less likely to score an upgrade IMO. i.e. the coin would really need to fit the grade and not a marginal piece.

I don't like it but I have fallen into getting it with the heard. It is like the concept of "hate crimes" to me. It is redundant and foolish because an MS 69 or a MS70 is the same no matter what the order of issue. Of course I like the little flag on the plastic but that is another issue. I look forward to the day when everyone finally realizes the foolishness of this designation and it just goes away. It is corrupting the hobby.

Why should every coin that comes out of the mint be considered a 70...???..I can't believe it..!!I'm sure they are trying their best to produce a quality product. These are mass produced discs with designs on them that are sure to have some itsy bitsy teeny weeny little flaw that some anal mass submitter is gonna send the 69s back 'cause he didn't get a 70.....Gimme a break...!!!
And as far as the First Strike™ issue is concerned ...you can draw your own concusion..I have my own....

Maybe if they would just keep the flag and drop the first strike verbage it would be better. Now if they had "first strike" doughnuts that would be ok.

Make and sell FS. The only issue with that is if you decide to collect some, you may end up having to buy them to complete your set!

I don't like it. It's a manufactured way of making a common coin appear rare.

Some day in the future, FS holders will be hard to find and I don't mind having a few just to show off how nonsense FS was.

Actually, I like the label and the flag on FS holder and I will take FS coin anytime for the same price as non FS.
  • The first strike stuff is a scam. NGC has already had to pay on a lawsuit against it. You can read the story...
    www.numismaticnews.net/Default.aspx?tabid=459&articleid=7912&articlemid=1391#1391Articles
All the new stuff being graded is such a waste. It's all bullion and that will be what it's worth when you sell it. If you can even find a dealer to pay more than the going bullion rate for first strikes, I would be suprised. I still see them SELL for MORE than a 2-3% markup(normal rate for new bullion) over bullion for FS designation though. Just my thoughts

  • ttownttown Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭
The real problem is it's only bullion and WHEN metals rise you'll see even the lower grade Classic MS gold coins going for bullion just like the 80's.

You know the coin police don't like off topics but I will sneek in a quickie and drop it. The answer is the law should be consistent with a range of punishments to fit the crime. Vandalism is vandalism like a MS65 is a MS65 (or should be). I would be just as offended and disturbed with a gang member painting a gang sign on my house as a jew would be with the swastika. The problem is that someone gets to define what a hate crime is and that leads to injustice and corruption.

PCGS's First Strikes are a total joke.

But that being said, I will buy a coin in a FS holder - I just won't pay a premium for it. At this point, I think I have exactly 1.

  • My set of ASE are non-first strike. I do have a couple of older first strikes that I'll put on ebay before Thanksgiving.

I submitted a first strike for regrade to a 70. So you can submit them. It came back a 69 though.

I don't believe in FS, and I don't care about them... Even if it was given to me at NO extra charge, it still would'nt matter either...
