How's the Morgan Market these days?

I don't collect these but here lately I have been thinking I'd like to add a nice DMPL or PL, CC or other better date to my collection. So are these still flat to down. Any help would be appreciated.

Better dates are at least as strong as ever. Prooflikes are doing well above MS62. Higher pop, widget dates even in DMPL aren't terribly exciting. CC are mixed from what I have seen. Some aren't selling in auction because consignors are putting higher reserves than the market will accept. Some are selling for the same typically ridiculous prices (relative to their scarcity). Could be a good time to pick up a nice gem dmpl type coin, even maybe as an 1882 through 1884 CC date. I wouldn't touch an 1891-CC right now and have noticed a lot more 1890-CC Morgans out there recently than has been typical.

I've been able to win many auctions on Teletrade & Ebay for prices that are at or slightly below current price guides.

And with very little competition as well.

    Last couple of purchases:

    1921-D MS64 ANACS
    1884-S AU50 ANACS
    1878 7/8 TF MS63 ANACS
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

  • My common dates in 62-64 are going for 50% Trends but I can't keep PLs and DMPLs till auction close because they're grabbed at the Buy-It-Now price which is about 10%-25% above Trends.

    My better dates languish.

I have noticed that prices for the 1891-cc has fallen in a black hole. A 63 brings somewhere in the $500's on ebay now. No long ago it was in the high $700's. Unusual to see a cc coin fall like that. The opportunity is there is want a nice coin.

I agree that pl and dmpls are still doing well. The common dates have seen a dip as the price of a non pl has lost some ground.

The pcgs price guide has had some crazy price adjustments as some of the better date pl's have been sold lately for very solid money.

The CC's have been hot... I have heard they may be cooling off. I hope so... will see about upgrading my set if this is so... Cheers, RickO
