Did anyone notice the new PCGS Shipping and Handling Fees??? up 20%+...WHY??

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,934 ✭✭✭✭✭
As of September 19, 2007, prices have gone up and quite a bit.

I checked the previous rates, and these new prices appear to be over 20% higher.

Anyone else out there that can confirm this steep jump???

Why did they need to go up by 20%+?????

The online submission forms, even as of today, still have the old rates. I wonder if PCGS is aware of that glitch.

I was completely unaware of the change. I just had two submissions received today with the old rates on the invoice, I'll be curious to see what they charge my card.

  • I think the new rates are accurate. I just sent five coins via first-class registered mail with $1,000 insurance and the total was $15.01 without delivery or signature confirmation.

If you disagree with their shipping methods and prices (like I do) then you can have PCGS ship your coins to you on your personal or company shipping account for the USPS or FedEx. The prices you pay will be the actual shipping charges.

this may be off topic, but I think you're going to see a lot of increases with charges such as these,

    why?

because the US dollar is tanking and US companies need more revenue because of this.

  • And CLCT's 4th quarter results were poor.
Other fee increases could be in store.

"because the US dollar is tanking and US companies need more revenue because of this."

That makes no sense, since everything from the service to the slabs are US products.

Most folks are a little "ambitious" regarding their grades going in and therfore Insure their coins according to what they think they will be valued at should they grade as hoped for.

Does PCGS charge this often, overly-ambitious Insured rate for the ride home, if and when the coins are NOT worth what we had hoped they would be?

I need to check my latest submissions to see what I was charged for the ride Home.

Another thing ( I bet I can already guess the answer).... If a submitter sends multiple invoices in for grading USING THE SAME SERVICE - in One box - and all the coins are done within a day or two of each other (Same Grading tier - example/ 2 submissions using Regular tier) .... Why do they not ship them back in the same fashion - in one box? imageimage

Why ship them in seperate boxes thereby costing the submitter double postage instead of just shipping them back together? Afterall, we are talking about identical grading levels and Guaranteed turnaround time?
  • They did drop the 5 coin minimum for Regular service, so sending 1 or 2 Jeff FS coins will actually be cheaper.

    I noticed that too.

NGC raised shipping rates in late Spring.

PCGS is actually behind the curve on that.

Why did the post office raise their rates this spring?
