Is this the first Jefferson Liberty Gold in Mint-sealed box sold on eBay?

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,990 ✭✭✭✭✭
I guess $575 is a nice littlle sale price for a flipper.

Anyone have any idea where these Liberties are headed price wise?

I have no clue and don't really care.

I bought one of each, and I'll receive them on Monday. image

These ladies are keepers.

Anyone else holding on to their golden ladies???

Keeping mine . Expect these to do the opposite of the first two. Will start "low"and increase in price. Many segments of the hobby will want one because of the design, as well as future lady liberty"s.

Because of the order limits there are no large hoards of these coins. The sellers now are weak holders, some with maxed out credit cards, etc. No way are I selling mine and I expect the prices to vastly increase in the future.

Keeping mine longterm. Its a slaughterhouse on ebay on these. Its just too early to begin thinking of selling these.

i have said from the beginning that perhaps the time to buy these coins is in the aftermarket when Gold falls down to about $320 an ounce. who knows when that'll be, but i'll be waiting!!
  • It will really depend on a collector base as to how sucessful these will become... I saw a 1999 PCGS MS69 $10 gold eagle mint error sell on ebay here for $898 yesterday,, How many of those were minted,, estimates I've seen are possibly less than 2000... thats ten times rarer than the spouses... last year this coin was selling for over $1100.... It's going to take a long term commitment and a lot of $$$ to complete this set.. how many are ready and willing to make that kind of commitment, and spend that much money for a modern bullion coin????????..... When gold bottomed out back in 1999 I was buying certified PR69Dcam 1/2oz gold eagles for $149. to $189. each.. and they originaly sold for twice that... the 1999 2000 proof eagles from the mint were originaly selling at that time for $285. uncertified... image ........ linky

Does anyone know this answer :
What are the actual mintage numbers of any of these spouses ... Is it possible that 30,000 could be proofs and 10,000 are uncirculated ...or is it likely the mintages of both coins will be in close proximity to one another ?
  • I am keeping all 30 of the ones I am getting.
  • Last that I heard from the mint was that they had a sell out of the first two and it was about 50/50 on the orders,,, I think everyone just bought equal amounts not knowing what they were going to look like or which was going to sell the best ....

And that 1909-S VDB is about $.04 worth of copper.
That 1893-S Morgan is $12 worth of silver.
The 1933 St. Gauden's Double Eagle is $600 worth of gold.

Have you ever heard of "numismatic value?" Not all value is in the cost of the materials, you know. After all, a Van Gogh is just $60 worth of paint and canvas...
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

.. . Yeah,,, but,,, all you have listed are real old classic coins with a very strong history and collector base... they are not modern gold bullion coins... maybe many,, or many many many years down the road when these will have some history and a hugh collector base they might be fairly valuable pieces... case in point,,, The Morgan Silver Dollar,, it took almost a hundred years for them,,, Most people did'nt even want to carry them around in their pockets back in their day.. and they are a 'CLT',, Circulating legal tender.....
  • prices on ebay, yesterday, were all over the map. From $489 low to $620 high.

image Wow, I guess people are realizing that these ladies are going to be very hard to get in any kind of quantity.

Ergo, prices may go through the roof in the short term.

Come Christmas time, it should be very telling.

I'm hoping that there were many more numismatists and hobbyists buying the Jefferson Liberties, than there were flippers!!!! image

Wow! I just saw that, too. I haven't opened mine yet (although temptation is tugging), but with that price I wonder if I should just keep it sealed and start thinking about flipping!!

It's possible the bidder thought it was for both Unc and Proof... ?
  • I am tempted to open both my boxes to make sure all is ok.You can hear and feel the presentation box sliding back and forth in the shipping box.Guess the Mint was to cheap to put packing material in the box to hold them in place.

So much for big $$$$$$$$.....$577 for this auction.

    eBay Link
  • Hmmm.... I wonder what HSN & QVC are paying for these?? Does Littleton(sp?) even buy these type of Mint issues?
  • Looks good to me.
  • I hope you guys are right about the upward trend on these. With all the hype that this particular coin got, I am puzzled as to why it is selling at such a "low" price compared to the first two coins, the initial jump on those at and around $800, was a healthy return on my "investment". I cannot figure the price volatility, it is all over the place $480- to $950, this is crazy.
  • GATGAT Posts: 3,146
The real problem is the Mint delivering almost the whole mintage in a few days, The flippers are cutting each others throats on eBay. There are no large hoards so when the flippers are finished the price should rise. These are long term holds IMO.
    USAF vet 1951-59
  • "no large hoards" means more collectors got them. Maybe prices won't rise
"Everyday above ground is a good day"

  • I think that the low resale on these might be due to the fact that there are still Hundreds of certified and raw MW & AA gold coins on eBay that are not selling... if they were hard to come by at this point, the Liberty's would likely be skyrocketing.
  • My feel is that it is a matter of time before the prices start rising. I'm certain it'll happen after the dust settles and the flippers are done.

Once the big dealers, HSN and QVC get enough, they'll start reselling at much higher prices.

I also expect the price on these to rise even higher when the next Liberty spouse is released from the mint and people start scrambling to create their subset. Especially since I believe that the following spouse releases will be of a higher mintage

Most of the ones selling right now are the ones trying to pay back the credit card they purchased these on. These need to clear out in a couple of two to three weeks and then the prices should start to inch upwards. I'm going to hold mine a couple of months and see what happens.
  • I'm actually the buyer of the JL proof from that auction image

I bought another on eBay yesterday for $551, but when I saw how low this one was going for - I just couldn't resist image
  • I'm sniping ALL I can get at low $500s
