Shipping question?

I am betting this has been asked before but ... Anyone know if you can use a USPS shiipping label purchased online and then purchase insurance for the package seperately at the PO?

Thanks

If you are talking about PayPal shipping or USPS shipping on line, the answer is NO, at least not by the rules. But if the label has the price paid on it, some POs will figure the difference and stick a insurance tag on it.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Just got off the phone with the 1 800 rep from USPS. I asked if I had purchased an online shipping label and wanted to add insurance would I have to void out the label and start over or could I add the ins at the PO. She said I did not have to void it and could add the ins later. I guess I will find out in a few. I have a feeling this is not going to go very smooth.

  • I've done that. I shipped a $700 coin. Purchased the shipping label online as well as the $500 limit of insurance. Took the package to the post office and added an additional $200 of insurance. No problems.

Definately not. Also, you are limited to Priority & Express Mail service for paid online labels purchased via click&ship. If your insured value is above $500 your only option is to get a manual label & visit your friendly neighborhood P.O. As mentioned above, you may be able to purchase additional insurance from the P.O.

  • Just got back from the PO. Scenario was I printed my shipping label through paypal without ins. I went to the PO and grabbed the over $200 form and asked if I could attach it to a package with a prepaid label. Clerk said no problem. She put the package on the scale punched in the destination figured out the shipping fees then added in the fee for the insured amount. She subtracted the postal fees and I paid for the insurance only. To me this seems to be the best solution - it should satisfy the protection agreement since I used their (Paypal) system to create the label and tracking # and my ins reciept is stamped from a clerk rather then a drop off with prepurchased insurance. Anyways, It went smooth and easy.
