**update**the dime arrived and it's proof yayy!!!! it's actually better in hand at that too.

Dime appears Proof from the photo. Franklin is polished and worth only silver value.

Red Book reports 22,329 proof Merc Dimes for 1942, However they do not offer a value.

PCGS price guide has the 1942 listed in PF-65 as $125.00

22 bucks for a coin with that low of a mintage has to be good. if its proof.

Are you going to send it in to be graded?

I'm leaning towards proof on the Merc. Outstanding even if a business strike. The Franklin is a dog any way you look at it.

You never actually score until you have the coin in hand.

I would not brag about a possible cherry pick, because you never know if the seller is a member or a lurker, and with a one day auction, you never know if it is a hijacked account ( Although not usually done for cheap coins)

That being said, even if the dime is not a proof, it looks to be nice for the money.

It is too hard to tell from the photo on the frankie- can't make out lines or even the Pass and stowe- could be polished or bad picture, doesn't look like a proof.

Although the photo is inconclusive, it jumped out at me that the dime is mint state. The lustre looks too frosty to be a proof.

I like the Merc too. I'd have a stronger opinion if it was in my hand but I too am leaning towards the possibility is it proof. It isn't cameo.

The Frankie won't turn out as well for you I'm guessing.

thanks for all the replies...this post per se wasn't a brag moreso a it does happen to us here from time to time...just wanted to pass some happiness.i'll know in hand but that merc looks like a lock on proof-yayy but the frankie was a something about how the letters have a glow around them and brillants seem to shoot black as this seller had lots of frankies up and this one stood out-better then tossin 10 in a slot-machine out here...;-)

I'm a bit surprised at all the predictions of the Dime being a Proof, not to mention that a few people think it is possibly a Cameo. Do you guys know how hard it is to find 1942 Cameo Proof Dimes? And raw on ebay no less? It would be great if you "scored" but I think it's just a dipped business strike and worth less than you paid unfortunately. Let us know how it turns out.

This looks like a very nice full band business strike to me. But it appears that I am in the minority. I have to admit I am far from an expert on mercury dimes

I also think the dime is a proof, but not a CAM; the half is a cleaned AU. It'll be a nice score for you. I once bought a type one 1942 proof nickel that was in a cardboard/mylar 2x2 for $1, but you've got me beat with this one. Congrats!

I hope the dime pictured is of the actual coin you receive, and not a photo taken from another auction.
