Looking for a complete 1972 and 73 sets - what should I spend?

I have baseball sets back to '74 that I collected as a kid. Watching that '72 pack rip has me wanting to buy some earlier sets. Starting with '73 and '72. I don't need a PSA graded set as I just want 4 reasonably sharp corners and what I would call "ex+++++ - near mint." What should I spend for such a beast in '72 and '73? Here's a '73 on Ebay that looks decent. Any thoughts on what it might end at?

I am looking at the 72 set auction you have linked. Many of the star cards shown are OC. I would not pay more then $600 for THAT set. I would say he is overgrading!!

A few years back I put together a nice raw NM++ 72 set........many were bought one card at a time........including S/H I had close to $1400 into the set. I sold it on ebay for $1250. (BIN). I had listed it three times before it sold not having met a $1000 reserve.

I think you can get a decent Ex-Nr set in the $750-$900 range.

    Hope that helps...

  • 72 sets on ebay usually can be had for around $700 for EXish sets to around $800-$900 for nice EXMNT ones. 73 sets in Exmnt range usually go $375-$450 range...hope that helps

You should be able to get a EX-NM set of '73 in the $400-$500 range. Usually, you will need to UG the Schmidt in those sets because it is typically the weakest card in the box. A NM or better set will run between $$600-$800, but they have been know to go for less. Depends on who is watching the auctions.

    Good luck in your search!
