WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE BUYS UP GOLD COINS???

I have seen recently Ebay bidders with very different looking ID's.
They are all similiar to l***c or t***p or f***s
I don't get it.....Maybe it's just me but I've seen them on many Gold coin auctions over and over.

Anybody have an idea?????
Are they the shills I've heard about from China??????
What a Saturday mystery

Ebay's new method of concealing bidders identity. Cheers, RickO
  • Donny --- these are 'generic' IDs created by ebay to hide the ID of the actual bidder...policy has been in effect for a while now...image
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

the "letter-asterisks-letter" format is not representative of a particular user's ebay ID. They are convenience (maybe random?) placeholders that ebay chose to use rather than using "Bidder 1" "Bidder 2" etc. For example, if an ebay user's ID is BarndogEbay, the user ID shown when he bids will not necessarily be "B***Y" -- instead, it will be some other set of characters.

Basically, what we have is the same thing as we had before, except ebay threw eyewash to solve the complaints generated over "Bidder 1" "Bidder 2" usage.

The only reliable indicator that you can use is the feedback number associated with each bidder. If you specialize in a certain series, you will be able to figure out (based on knowledge of fellow specialists' feedback numbers) who your competition is. You won't be able to figure it out from the fictitious abbreviations that ebay uses.

Another reason to hate the way ebay does business, IMO.
