2000 strikes and I'm out!!!!!!!!! Another roll searching adventure.

Well I just completely struckout. I just got done going thru $1000 in half dollars, not 1 single silver 40% or 90%.

I am done with the large boxes, I will still check with my local banks to see if any lil old ladies brought in 3 rolls, but no more boxes for me.

Bigtime bummer.

  • I did 500 worth a few days ago and got 8 kennedy's and 1 franklin. Not to bad but was expecting more image
  • I searched a box yesterday:

    1 -64
    3 - 67
    4 - 68

My father did 4 boxes this week (he's retired). Got only 3 - 40%.

Last year getting 25-35 in a box was common - not anymore.

My father did hit one box a while back with over 250 in it.
  • Thats a bummmer. They may have already been searched.
  • Rob, you must have went thru the box I turned in a few weeks ago. image Bob

    Don't give up...

I just finished a $500 box and found

    1 1964
    2 1968

And 1 George Washington $1 stuck in the middle of a roll.

You never know what you will find.

I actually think that's pretty good!
  • I got a 68-D in change from the bank today. What is it worth for silver content?
  • Which years contain silver and what % for that year? Sorry for lacking this information.

    Currently worth approx $1.85

You can always look up the current melt values for silver here: Coinflation website.

  • What I actually meant was:

What year/series halves contain silver and what is the % for that year? What do I want to keep if I find?

  • Hey blastpak,

    1964 and earlier are 90%
    1965-1970 are 40 %

You may want to check for several other things as well:

    Proofs
1974-D DDO The doubling is strongest in the "RUS" of TRUST
1987 P&D were not issued for circulation
2002-Present were not issued for circulation

    Hope this helps!

  • Rob:

Were they machine-rolled in the white and yellow wrappers? I've found those to be pretty lean.

    Tom:

Thanks for mentioning that the 2002 to present weren't issued for circulation. I didn't know that, but I had noticed that I don't see many of them. In addition to 87 P&D, I've found very nice 02, 03-D, 04 P&D, and 05-D in some rolls I searched last spring.

Don't give up! Christmas season is coming, and I suspect it was the Christmas cash-in that brought me these on January 13, 2007:

I have no idea what caused the same bank to then have these on hand on June 13, 2007:

But I'm sure there's still some enjoyable roll searching to be had throughout the country.
