The meaning of life ? I don't know but I am sure that coins have something to do with it.

Marcel, I only have an old, oddly-lit, under-exposed image of it which doesn't do the token justice image

    But here it is:

Does anyone know of Askari's whereabouts?

He was a positive force here and an excellent poster whose interest was primarily in medals if I remember correctly.

Yes, it was medals. Got me interested in them and then disappeared. Haven't even seen him bidding on ebay, used to be a common experience.image

I know what you mean about seeing his name bidding! His posts here were always most excellent.

I had emailed him awhile back, it sounded like he had a new environment at work, and had to prioritize. I think my last email with him was about year ago.

He is one of the Darksiders I have met in person--I was lucky enough to have dinner with him and his family when I was visiting Texas to take a test.

I always imagined him as a warrior figure:

During the period of European rule in East Africa locally recruited askari soldiers were employed by the Italian, British, Portuguese, German and Belgian colonial forces. They played a crucial role in the initial conquest of the various colonial possessions and subsequently served as garrison and internal security forces. During both World Wars askari units served outside the boundaries of their colonies of origin.

    Who was he really?

I'm afraid nobody's at liberty to divulge that information. Sorry.
