Newbie help (dialuppers beware?)

After reading the recent milkspotting threads, I went to look at some of my slabbed silver eagles, and this caught my eye. The scan makes it look a little bluer than in hand, a small silver "O" just above the L in SILVER on the reverse. There are some small areas of milkspots elsewhere on the reverse that reflect in a similar fashion to light sources/angles, but those areas are much more "splotchy" in appearance. Any thoughts? Debris? Thanks for looking! - Mike

I have no idea... never saw that phenomena before. I trust the experts here will chime in with an answer. Cheers, RickO
  • Just FYI, bought this silver eagle in PCGS slab off ebay a few months ago, so I never saw it raw, but I do not think this was there the first couple times I looked at it. It has been stored with about 9 other slabbed eagles, none of the other slabbed eagles show this, and the milkspotting on this and other slabbed eagles has not changed to my eye.

That sure is odd, couln't tell what that is. Just to give you a heads up, I have had excellent results storing ASE's

in vacuum sealed bags. Some have been sealed for 6 years, no milk, no spots.

I use the Food Saver brand. Good luck with your Eagle's.

  • To Morgans Forvever :

I have a Food Saver, but never thought to use it for coins. Do you give them a rinse prior to slabbing, as practiced by Russ (I think)? Also, are the Food Saver brand bags thought to be safe for coin storage? I guess I am eating food stored in them. image
