Bonds wasted his talent? Say what you will about his ego or integrity, but I don't think he wasted his gifts. I'd say he got the most out of them - and then some, perhaps.

I like Griff, but really he's the one who didn't fully realize the promise. He's had a great career, but in a sense, it's almost been a letdown.

Griffey Jr hands down. I hope he goes back to Seattle and finishes with about 120 more HR.

nearly 600 homers and he is a letdown? he and bonds were arguabley the two most exciting players of the 1990's, Griffey had 10 gold gloves, several HR titles, and MVP. IF bonds doesnt juice up, take gods knows what he is probably retired by now and certainly doesnt break Aarons record.

Bonds is an embarassment to the sport and as a human being.

Relative to the expectations surrounding him early in his career, Griffey, I think, has been a letdown. No doubt he was the most exciting and probably the best player in the game for a considerable stretch, but I can't think of many other recent players' careers that prompt one to ask, "What if?" as much as Griffey's career does.

Agreed about Bonds, as far as Griffey goes, his injuries have been the reason for a letdown- I think he could have roughly 700+ HRs right now if he stayed healthy.
  • I concur, injuries took essentially three years off of Griffeys totals; he could have 700 dingers right now, but 600 is no slouch.

  • In the over 50-year history of people using drugs to reach the very top of sports performance so many names have been revealed that any further disclosure would not be a total suprise. Further plenty of athletes have done very well and had very big muscles without drugs that there is absolutely nothing to make me think Albert Pujols is so much more likely to have used than Derrek Lee. And anyone who plays this sort of guessing game is stupid

  • Being the best baseball player is hardly talent wasted

That might change if Bonds dies at 55, but until that happens we should simply call him the greatest talent

How many would McGwire have hit if not for injuries?

Bonds would have been retired 5 years ago if not for the drugs.
