Dug this lot today:
I think I found one of those bottle holes people talk about...now how did I find glass with a metal detector? Easy I think the rusted remnants of the one bottles lid triggered my metal detector to send off a quarter like signal. First thing I encountered was a broken plate and then some broken brown glass-then the bottles must have got lucky- I missed them with my digging tool and wiped away some dirt with my hand and found the little one- it was easy to pull out of the sandy/clayish ground, underneath was the larger bottle- it was a bit more difficult to pull out- but it was intact as well. As there was lots of broken glass in the hole and a tangle of small roots- I decided to fill it back in as I had no gloves and no small shovel. Might have to go back and dig some more in that spot. Here are some close ups of the bottles:
I found the large pin- my closest guess is maybe for a scarf a few feet away, Its marked Sterling and RD 1905 on backside. The St.Christopher medal is also marked Sterling and below that Chapel, it looks to have been worn a long time before being lost. Here's some close ups of them:
I must say there might be something to this bottle digging as well . Edited to add: I did keep up hopes for finding a pile of coins inside one of the bottles-but all I got was muck.

Rinsed them with hot water, then got out the scrub brush / spongy thing and used dish soap.
As a follow up, went back the next day more prepared and found bottle digging wasn't that much fun after all, everything else I dug from hole was busted into small pieces.

I'll agree. Iv'e yet to find a bottle dump that could hold my interest for more than half an hour. Too much work in one spot.
Nice finds!
