<< <i>I understand the point for certain types of scarce vintage unopened packs, but for say the vast majority of unopened packs, especially post WW2, the majority of the value is no question for the cards inside the pack.

I disagree with you there completely, Steve. By your own admission, though, you stated "For me, any vintage pack I would buy would immediately get busted so for me the only value is what is inside the pack," so you're not viewing this from the perspective of an unopened collector. >>

You know I respect your opinion, except when it comes to the Mets image, but it would be an interesting "test" to take two exact vintage unopened packs such as this with each having a different ebay auction description and see what the sales price difference would be on ebay - I believe the difference could be substantial.

If this discussed Mastonet auction would have been described in the manner in which I presented by giving a complete account of what the card inside the pack is likely to be like...I do believe this auction would have sold for less money and very possibly much less money....well, I guess we'll never know.

I do agree with you there, Steve. No question that "hype" sells packs, too, especially for the inexperienced collectors out there. It's a rare seller who'd list a pack and say that he doubts there are any cards worth grading in his pack for sale. image

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

You got that right! Going back to those Sweet Caporal unopened packs, almost everytime there is one on ebay, it "could contain a T206 Wagner, right? LOL
