Buy the Holder not the Card

I do it sometimes, I want to know what cards people have purchased just because of the grade. Was it because it was a good deal for the grade, example a PSA 9 selling at PSA 8 prices due to centering? Was it because you were too afraid of not finding it again? Was it because you don't really care that much about the condition as long as it's graded? When I go home I will post some cards I bought purely to further my set registry but really don't care that much for them. I tend to always involve these kinds of cards in my trading plans.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set

<< <i>After looking over 400+ specimens, I said screw it and just bought one of these .50 cent cards. >>
EDIT. Forgot to mention at about 200x the amount of what it's worth raw.

<< <i>When I sell graded cards on these boards, it is amazing how few requests I get for scans. I think a lot of the scan requests are just to verify the exact item that I am selling. I think that most people who are buying for their registry are buying the holder and not the card. I guess the exception would be for a valuable card that is plentiful and many examples of the same grade are regularly available (ie 1975 Brett rookie). >>
Funny you should mention the '75 Brett. I passed on all three examples of a PSA 8 that I found at the National based on eye appeal.....it was either bad placement of the "fish eyes" or poor centering. I will continue to search for a PSA 8 with solid eye appeal...the same is going to be true with the PSA 7 Bench Rc I am trying to hunt down.
In real estate....location, location, location.....graded cards....eye appeal, eye appeal, eye appeal.
