It is pretty bad that the ban Axtell thread is the highlight of the board. Let the guy be...move on. O.k., he made some outlandish comments, and has called peope names.
In his reincarnation he has been a positive contributor, and I think he has been unfairly picked on during his comeback...and in fact it looks as though others have done more to flame than he has. In fact, it doesn't 'look' like they have...they have.
Not only that, but to pick on his car? His weight? O.K. are there some major insecurities going on here?
He got severly picked on in that new hit the pitch thread or whatever.
It has been said that if Ted Bundy became nice, would it erase his bad deeds? Again, calling names on a sports talk show is not the same crime as killing people.
So he had an outlandish unfounded theory on the twin towers. Historians have theories like that on almost every historical event. How many Kennedy theories are there? Why harp on it? Move on. Heck, this board has more ignorant comments than one can count, his isn't the only one. I still remember a guy saying I couldn't play ball because he had no recourse after showing ignorance on a topic. I still wish to play a simple game of catch with the fella.
Yes, guys deserve a second chance...and most everyone here can be put in the stupid 'pot meet kettle quote'...myself included.
And this darn NY thing with Axtell. He hates NY sports, and has reasons, so what. NY is treated as if they are everything...too bad they were the worst colony in fighting the British, the last stronghold of the Brits

Parts of New York were the worst places in the history of the world in the 1800's. They aren't any better than others, yet they think they are...and Axtell called that out aggresively.
How do you think it would be if everybody snowballed onto one guy? I had a few disagreements with Ax, and lots of discussions. In reality, many of his comments and words were as good as anybody elses, and in fact I believe he is one of the tougher people to debate when on the opposite side of a view(and not because ignorance is harder to debate). He was actually pretty good. Then everything hit the fan, and it was all down hill.
Even if all that above means nothing to people who don't like him, and it probably won't...how bad must one feel about himself to have to bash the guys car and weight? That is chicken Ch!it garbage.

Other than Red Sox/Yankees feuding, there isn't much that goes on that doesn't include axtell bashing. If you think he's a troll, don't feed him. If you actually (deep down) enjoy the banter, let it flow. Weight or car bashing is pretty weak though.

I cant recall a time where Ive publicly denounced anything youve ever said. I respect your opinions, knowledge, research, data collecting abilities, and passion.
In most regards I even agree with the reason for your post here, but I have to call you out on one thing wholeheartedly.
Saying that NY and NY'ers arent better than anyone else, just fine and obviously true. Nobody in their right mind would argue such a point. Stating that folks from NY think they ARE better, well that was just pure stupidity and something I would expect much more from you regarding.
I hope it was a momentary lapse of judgement rather than your genuine opinion of myself and fellow NY'ers.

As for people in general, I can't really say that about them. Though I believe more people feel that way towards NY, than other places.

The same people who accuse me of being inflammatory, of being argumentative are the same ones who are argumentative and inflammatory. Your comment about the derisive comments about what I choose to drive and my weight reflect just how insecure these people are, that they result in attempts of schoolyard bullying in order to feel better about themselves.
I have done my best to stay away from personal attacks and name-calling that so many here resort to when it comes to debating me, but it seems as if some posters here will never be able to do the same.
Just keep trucking, be a good citizen, and just refrain from name calling. Some posters may never give you a chance, but some will. Over time people will stop calling you names, and maybe give it a second chance. They may realize that they too have been guilty of the same things they are accusing you of. I have been guilty of some name calling too...maybe I and the others should be gone then too.
Now as for the bashing of the Mets, Braves, Dodgers, Cowboys, Buccaneers, NY Giants, Redskins and all other non-Philadelphia teams, that can continue unabated.

Does it matter "who started it" if two guys are engaging in poor behavior towards each other? Isn't that a child's first line of defense when they partake in behavior that is not acceptable? They will say, "well he started it!"
Many of those people who were railing against Axtell were doing the same thing they were yelling against. It doesn't matter if they 'started' it, they were partaking in behavior that was unacceptable. They could have handled it differently if they felt 'he started it'.
Like Bosox hinted, it is possible that deep down they enjoyed that give and take. Heck, I often used it as Jerry Springer type entertainment.
You can put lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig. The reason ax doesn't circumvent the bad word filter, call people names (other than me a racist but obviously, you neglected to mention that), or wish death upon posters is because it's a condition of his reprieve. Even though his alias "axtell" was the most vile poster I've ever seen, he was allowed to come back because of purchasing a PSA membership.
I'm not going to go back and forth on this because it won't do any good.
I said it before and will say it again, all ax has to do is apologize. How can one forgive and forget if he never apologizes for his previous actions?

It would only be appropriate for the member who has been banned SIX times to start with a sincere apology.
There will continue to be resentment until he acknowledges and apologizes his wrong doings. Until then, every time he posts something negative, it will be perceived as a flame attempt, period.

At this point I consider what you have said regarding Ny'ers worse than anything Ax did.
I have not uttered one word directly to, or in response to anything Ax has said since his reinstatement. I consider him to be who he is and not worth getting into it with at this point.
You, on the other hand were someone who although I didnt always agree with, and often thought of as less than willing to listen to anyone but yourself. considered above such mindless, closed minded statements such as the one you made regarding NY'ers and our belief in being better or smarter than others.
I am with Dan at this point and dont think this place is worth sticking around on if people like you are allowed to make statements like that without repurcutions.
I implore those outside NY to stand up and realize the garbage that was spewed from your mouth to stand up right here and right now against you and to put you in your place. So far at least one guy has, Stown, and for that I truly respect and thank him. Others should follow his example and take a stand so that biased crap like Skins dont become the norm on here.
