You would think that PR people would make sure the people they handle know enough not to, in any way, defend Michael Vick at this juncture.
And I just LOVE when he says that we should be more concerned with who killed Darrant Williams. Like it's the same group of people looking into that matter, and they've put it on hold to pursue Vick.
Maybe he's right that Vick wasn't the ringleader, but everyone who was heavily involved shares equal culpability in my book. It's not like someone who killed just 5 dogs is a better person than someone who killed 25.
Stick to TV Deion.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
I like Deion, but I think he gets dragged around like a minstrel show.

I think it's amazing how the athletes that everyone hated during their playing days are all of the sudden forgiven for their actions because they show a little remorse and are entertaining to watch on TV. Deion was a completely arrogant jackass who always sold himself to the highest bidder, was completely self-centered to the point where he would hurt his team in order to look better, and had no loyalty to anyone but himself. Now all of the sudden he's found god (he actually supposedly found god several times in his career, only to prove himself to be more of a jackass later) and people love him. Michael Irvin was almost the same exact story (although he at least had integrity on the field and cared about his team), except he was caught in a hotel room with hookers and some crack. Do you know how much horrible stuff these guys did that they never got caught for? I can only imagine.
kinda doggin (no pun intended) harrington a little bit - I bet if culpepper was the back up he would have said something else - cant wait to hear him on the NFL network - he talks out of both sides of his mouth -

Because a lot of people had no idea dogfighting even existed in this country until this. I agree the media spends WAY too much time covering losers like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, and reporting the every move of someone like, Angelina Jolie. But in this instance, the coverage has served as an eye opener for millions, and I am very grateful for that. And so are quite a few pitbulls I'm sure.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. I may new here, but I've got a few things to say. It is obvious by the responses to this post that some people actually read the article and then there are those who are talking out their a$$ and have no idea what they're talking about. I get the idea that some people post comments just to add to their number of posts when they really don't have a clue to what's going on.
I'm not a lawyer, but I do know the difference between an indictment and a conviction. To date, Vick has only been indicted, but not convicted. In other words (for you people who are talking out their a$$) he hasn't been found guilty. It is my opinion (note the word "opinion") that he committed the crimes of which he is accused. Then again, that's only my opinion. However, some of you people are so smart you some how know he is guilty. Have I missed something in the news? Did he confess or something or perhaps you can testify as an eye witness because you saw this?
These are the same morons that just a few months ago thought 3 members of the Duke lacrosse team was guilty of rape. They were indicted, but never convicted! Most of the people of this country (all you smart guys on this board) had already convicted those boys before they ever went to trial. They received death threats, were kicked off the team, ridiculed in public, had to transfer schools (I could keep going) and their lives will never be the same again because of idiots like you who want to automatically assume they were guilty. But when the defense attorney started poking holes in the accuser's story and her story changed several times, it became obvious she was lying and also had help from the DA who withheld evidence. They were railroaded! Look at the end result of that case, they were found innocent and all charges were dropped!!! Again, I'm not saying Vick is innocent because I don't believe that he is. I'm just saying he deserves his day in court. For all you smart people, what are you doing on these boards? With your expertise, you should be out investigating crimes!
Now back to the article. This is the part where people are talking out their a$$. One post says that Deion was defending Vick. Funny, but I read the whole article, and I just didn't see that. Please point that out to me. Deion did say, "Was he wrong? Absolutely. Was he stupid? Can’t argue with that. Was he immature? No doubt. But is he the ringleader? I just can’t see it." Didn't sound like he was defending him to me. He also said, "You can still choose to condemn him, but I’m trying to take you inside his mind so you can understand where he might be coming from." He is merely trying to give you another perspective, not trying to defend Vick. No, it wasn't the same group that killed Darrant Williams and the investigators aren't putting that on hold to focus their investigation on Vick. He only used the Williams example to show that investigators (no, not the same set of investigators) will spend more time investigating the Vick case than they will investigating Williams, which is true. If you don't like Deion so be it, but like Julen23 said, "I actually think he has a point."
right on julien, being in army 25 years,(66-92) dont believe anything you read or hear in the news ,lol, they tell you what they think you need to know, not what is really going on,ive been on both sides of it, and they are all fed lies, from the military standpoint anyways, dont know much abuot cives or how their news works, same premisis probably, propegana! the rube
please allow me to take a few moments out of my life which i will never get back to respond to your post and deions article:
1) you attempt to compare this case with the duke case. one was hatched by a lone rogue prosecutor trying to pander to minority votes. the other was brought by the feds which have between a 95% and 99% conviction rate depending on the source. the federal government does not have the manpower or money to go after cases without OVERWHELMING evidence of guilt. to date ookie/ron mexico is a free man. that has a high percentage of changing in the months ahead.
2) Did he confess or something or perhaps you can testify as an eye witness because you saw this?--hopefully no one here was demented enough to be there. however someone named tony taylor who was there and can place ookie there has plead guilty presumably to get a lighter sentence and to testify in the case.
3) there may be people who know who shot darrant williams. but with the "stop snitchin" mind set it is a lot more difficult to solve cases like his.
now on to deion here is his column: with my critique in bold i would’ve never thought Mike Vick, one of the NFL’s most exciting players — the man who makes the network execs smile every time he plays — would ever be indicted for crimes against man’s best friend. The potential impact could be devastating. let's see two playoff wins in six seasons. how many smiles are there when he puts up his 10-19-131 yard games with a couple of interceptions
He could lose millions worth of endorsements. Nike has already suspended the release of his new shoe. He could lose millions he was supposed to get from the Atlanta Falcons, if the club decides to cut him. That’s unlikely, but it could happen if he’s convicted or makes a plea arrangement. millions in endorsements?? how about going to prison. the falcons and their new coaching staff already are set to move on.
Or his reputation might wind up so stained that he’s never forgiven in the court of public opinion. That would be too bad for the 27-year-old superstar.
This is all the result of perspective.
What a dog means to Vick might be a lot different than what he means to you or I. Hold on, don’t start shaking your head just yet. Listen to me.
Some people kiss their dogs on the mouth. Some people let their dogs eat from their plate. Some people dress their dogs in suits more expensive than mine, if you can believe that. and some people water them down and electrocute them and hand them from a tree when they lose a fight
And some people enjoy proving they have the biggest, toughest dog on the street. You’re probably not going to believe this, but I bet Vick loves the dogs that were the biggest and the baddest. Maybe, he identified with them in some way.
You can still choose to condemn him, but I’m trying to take you inside his mind so you can understand where he might be coming from.
I’m sure all of the animal activists and Humane Society folks have a dart board with Vick’s picture in the center of it. And if he plays this season, PETA is going to picket every stadium where he plays.
Still, I must ask the question: Where is all of this going?
By now you’ve read all of the accusations about the cruelty involving the dogs — and I’m not just talking about their duels to the death. All of that is enough to make me cringe because I have three highly-trained protection German shepherds, just in case someone wants to rob my family.
Believe me, you don’t want to deal with them. With one German command, our dog Yascho turns into Cujo. And for the record, I live around the corner from the police station, so it won’t take them long to show up and save you from the dogs. i am sure he lives around the corner from the police station. he lives in gated community probably in a golf course
Now back to Vick.
Why are we indicting him? Was he the ringleader? Is he the big fish? Or is there someone else? The fights allegedly occurred at a property that he purchased for a family member. They apparently found carcasses on the property, but I must ask you again, is he the ringleader? so because he wasn't the ringleader everything is ok?
This situation reminds me of a scene in the movie “New Jack City,” when drug dealer Nino Brown is on the witness stand and eloquently says, “This thing is bigger than me.” all law cases should be decided by wesley snipes movies
Are we using Vick to get to the ringleader? Are we using him to bring an end to dogfighting in the United States? if we convict a child molester will it stop child abuse. NO but we still go after them
The only thing I can gather from this situation is that we’re using Vick.
Was he wrong? Absolutely. Was he stupid? Can’t argue with that. Was he immature? No doubt. But is he the ringleader? I just can’t see it.
I believe Vick had a passion for dogfighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win.
It reminds me of when I wore a lot of jewelry back in the day because I always wanted to have the biggest chain or the biggest, baddest car. It gives you status.
Can I pause for a moment to ask you a question?
Who shot Darrant Williams? Remember the Denver Bronco cornerback? I’m just more concerned about bringing to justice someone who killed a human. Or finding out who broke into Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker’s home, tied him up and robbed him at gunpoint. let's see one was in denver, the other in chicago and this in virginia. this one is federal the others are local
We’re attacking this dogfighting ring the same way a teenager attacks his MySpace page after school (by the way parents, make sure you monitor your kids). huh? did he take a timeout for a public service announcement? We should have the same passion for man that we have for man’s best friend.
The reason this is turning into a three-ring circus is that baseball is boring, basketball is months away, football is around the corner and we in the media don’t have a thing interesting to write about.
How will this end up? I have no idea. All I know is Falcons fans better pray because Vick’s backup is Joey Harrington. Enough said. big time RACIST remark. in fact if it were a white player involved with this crime deion would be calling them a backward hillbilly redneck and would never lift a finger to try to write some stupid article trying to convince people to see it from a differenent perspective. by the way i am sure that the atlanta receivers are happy to have quarterback who doesn't just look to the left side of the field and if there are no openings takes off running.
God bless and God willing I’ll hollah at you next week. most serious journalists use "hollah' in their writings
Like a hurricane rolling in, it will only be a matter of time before he pleads or is convicted. he may never go to prison, but this case is so ugly that his sponsors have jumped off his ship, his team has left him out to dry and even al sharpton and jesse jackson are nowhere to be found. he is stuck with clinton portis, allen iverson and deion sanders. not exactly a ringing endorsement of credibility or morality.
